An example of a piece where this instrument is used is in the theme song of "Midsumer Murders" by Jim Parker, which I have actually performed once with an orchestra, and which I will eventually perform with Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra this coming autumn. :)

What I can add is that the theremin was invented in 1919 by a Russian named León Theremin. It kinda sounds like a female voice, so another name for this instrument is thereminvox...
Kepz, a theremin is an electronic instrument played with your hands using no physical contact. There are two antennas on it. And if I remember correctly, The distance of your left hand from one antenna controls the volume, and the distance of your right hand from the other antenna controls the oscillator pitch. This was typically used in Star Trek and other Sci-Fi series. :D
