I realized that what makes a really great pad sound are the notes that make up the pad. Usually I like to have a few notes that are not in the chord that other notes form, or I like to form inversions of chords (the bass note is not the root). For me, "epic" pads generally have at least 3 voice polyphony. Detuned sawtooth works well. I might create a pad template sometime.

You know, if you guys ever open one of my track drafts up, you ought to start doing this to. For me, if anyone ever wants to see how I work, I organize all my heisenbergs to the left of the centroid along with their effects, the pulvs below along with their effects, and so on. for better refference, just open one up and see what I'm talking about. :)
