Synth idea is good here. Rhythm is nice, but you need more. Synths sound very dry.
Use splitter and split the signal into separate effects chain such as chorus, pulsar, reverb and so on. Detune them a little bit. Remember the way how you build your effects chain matters as well.
Good luck with discovering the right sound design. Will have an eye on this if it gets republished
