so lately, ive been working hard af on my sound design, trying to keep my style while trying to take care of all of the issues everyone seems to have with my music, and ive realized, while trying to make some more melodic dubstep after months of not doing just that, i realized that in my quest to sound better and better with the publication of each new song, that my bassy sounds, like wubs and growls, has degenerated drastically. its so hard for me now to make growls that im actually happy with, sounds that sound like something more than sounds, yknow. something that sounds good. i was wondering about some useful tips on wubs and growls that some people might have. because i really wanna do some melodic dubstep, ive been absolutely fuckin craving it lately, and im not publishing anything melodic dubstep until i figure out how to do this shit again. please and thank you.

all the growls that i try to make, and have tried to make in the past couple of weeks, sound monotonous, boring, and weak. which contrasts to what i remember my growls sounding like. full and gritty, and thick and powerful. i havent done it in so long, and ive been focusing more on mixing and mastering recently than i have variaty and special shit, and its slowly starting to show.
not to mention this is exactly the godamn mother fucking reason i was hesitant on trying to focus on mastering more, because now i have to pick up the slack that i fucking dropped off when i decided to try and follow all of the constructive criticism ive been getting. constructive my ass, i built one part of my music up just to let another fuckin falter. to be completely honest though, i do appreciate the crit, even if theres so much of it that i can hardly figure out what i need to do next, and i cant seem to find a balance between old sounds and sound design and new spicy special and better sounding sounds. its just a lot to sift through. plus not to mention im going through some shit too, but thats neither here nor there.
I don’t have a lot of helpful tips, but when it comes to growls, I tend to use a lot of effects. Distortion, EQ, Phaser, sometimes Flanger, and especially compression. Also, layering multiple sounds together is extremely useful, especially when your initial sound is lacking in a specific frequency range.
But growls are also probably the hardest form of bass sound to make in audiotool. I tend to avoid them for this reason unless my music specifically calls for them.
i cant rly escape growls whilst still doing dubstep. lol. i appreciate it though, besides, i found out a couple of cool ways to make some nice sounds using some weird and interesting tricks with the heisen. gonna try those sometime tomorrow or during the weekend.
Finding new tricks is also great.
