he is a popular artist for reasons such as his blend of faith-based lyrics with modern pop and hip-hop production, his honest and authentic approach to making music, and his engaging live performances that create a sense of community. He is known for bringing a fresh sound to Christian music that resonates with younger audiences, as seen with his viral success and charting albums like Child of God.
Flume - while some of his material is a bit boring, Flume doesn't stick to a formula, even within wonky. Hi, This is Flume was basically completely innovative at the time it came out. It's difficult to outdo him because Flume's music keeps moving in terms of sound design use, genre-nonconformity and so on.
Deftones - While I'm not a fan of all their work, they have a really good music formula going. Ever wonder what a gentle kiss from a metal song would sound like? That's basically the definition of what I like about their music. It's a little more grounded than shoegaze, less draining than most heavy metal tracks with the reliance on screamed vocals, heavier and less dense than metalcore, but also retaining the gorgeous choruses. Saturday Night Wrist is the best portrayal of the range of their alternative metal. And while I'm not too crazy about some of the tracks on White Pony, the album was and is still extremely innovative.
Iglooghost - There is literally no other person, maybe except for Tennyson, with the amount of sampling and arrangement finesse these 2 people have. Almost every sound you hear in Steel Mogu/Clear Tamei is only used a few times, but everything is cohesive, organic, clean and catchy if not impressive. Tidal Memory Exo is one of the best albums of 2024 and a slightly less hectic IDM masterpiece, with great trip hop-ish cuts.
Porter Robinson - I really like the evolution of his music. At first he made electro house and harder dance music, but he understood that there wasn't much artistic potential within it, so he started to write more emotional EDM. Worlds basically became the face of emotional future bass/EDM for a long time. Then came Virtual Self as a heartfelt nostalgic hommage to hard rave and rhythm game music. After that was done, Porter lost his direction and yet doing a full 180 with Nurture, becoming the face of indietronica. It's one of the most self-reflective, hopeful and beautiful pieces of electronic music to exist.
Carrion Haven - Is one of the first real audiobook rock acts along naswalt, but they've taken a different direction. Where Naswalt's music tends to become very dense and complicated, Carrion Haven keeps their sounds a little simpler, at times minimal but very thought out. At times a scarily honest rawness mixes with catchy, emotional text, heavy screaming, intense dissonance mixed with clean guitar chords and clean melodious singing. Those elements can be found either together (something especially awful) or in contrast (Chop). There's also a dancey combo of unpleasant feelings and jumpy groove in Second Depression. I especially like their use of pads and occasional clusters, guitar tone and use of industrial noise/electronic elements.
One can hear some of the borrowed influence from Loathe, but outside mere musical citation, rather analytically utilizing elements heard in some of Loathe's music (eg. the pads/guitar tone). They've filled a certain gap between several styles and adapted them into their own music in a great fusion that one would expect there to be more of, but that seems to be lacking even in the industry to a degree. Although they are seemingly taking on other directions, the rawness in their work has had a great impact on me.
Nine Inch Nails: Reznor and Ross have a crazy amount of range and connect the noisy and aggressive with a kind of at times playful, but also solemn, sometimes ambient melody and harmony. Reznor has a great ability to make memorable synth melodies even with simple sounds and has a great understanding of mixing. The Downward Spiral is a popular music history staple. It's catchy, noisy, super dense, deprived, depressing, but also insanely raw and even relatable. Reznor had the guts to say something most people keep hidden very deep within themselves and make it as in your face as it gets. The tracks that stand out the most for me though are the quieter, more personal tracks like hurt, everything where it belongs and the ambient instrumentals and more cinematic film music they've made
Current Value: While his flow may get a bit repetitive, there's nobody who has mastered neurofunk and jump up sound design the way he did. Some of the sounds you'll hear in his tracks are borderline insane. Any screech, growl, peep goes and is perfectly rhythmically placed. What I really like is that he's trying to experiment with structure and bass music as a whole. Plenty of off beat sounds, rhythmic oddities (while repetitive, still interesting) and so on. His Deadly Toys LP is a jump up must listen that is peak techno-dystopia and futuristic beyond understanding in terms of its sound design. Meanwhile The All Attracting is an incredible non-jungle/breakcore deconstruction of staple dnb rhythm and meter. And then there's Platinum Scatter that abandons all conventions and seems to dabble more in rhythmic sound experiments rather than regular electronic dance music.
Kanii: His music is quite unique, arguably one of the best plugnbb artists and he started making hits at the age of 17 and has been improving since then (he's 19 now)
Don Toliver: Also unique, very psychedelic and hip-hop kind of songs it's very cool. His partner is Kali Uchis and I like her music too (her voice is so pretty)
Xxxtentacion: in regards to music, his lyrics are powerful and relatable. also, he's a pretty funny guy. R.I.P.
VeucroX i like hatredcore and she is the starter of that gerne and my favorite song of her is so low
