WAV is a horrible container format which may contain lossy MP3 encoded streams as well :/
I don't know which formats we support in detail. @andremichelle do you have a list?
Even then, we managed to import and cut the samples with probe just fine, only that the track wouldn't render in app because the code only supported wav up to 24-bit.
I just uploaded a 24-bit sample called https://www.audiotool.com/sample/24bit_test and had no issues. The sample is exported with audacity as "WAV (Microsoft) signed 24-bit PCM", am I misunderstanding the issue at hand?
that is interesting, I remember we had problems with the https://www.audiotool.com/track/c691p2a9mm/ pack that prevented us from publishing because it was said that renderer had problems with 32-bit samples. That seems strange if all the samples are downsampled to 16-bits like you say.
I have always almost noticed the sample compression through probe. It always sounded slightly less crisp in audiotool. 24bit samplerate is good. I feel it will greatly enhance the track quality of mixes.

That's great info @andremichelle . I've also wondered about this. I'll update the FAQ with it, thanks.
I sent an email with 2 files I recorded attached to it.
That is definitely weird, but it's good to know. In the meantime, should I write it as a feature request if it hasn't already been done?
It's a feature request now ;)
Changed title. Was "Does Probe not support WAV 24bit?"
Well, this saves me the trouble. Thanks.
I thought macht fixed this around the time we released the https://www.audiotool.com/track/c691p2a9mm/ pack, which is all 32-bit samples.

I'm on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016, and the latest version of Chrome. I can send the file in a little bit.
oh wow, good find! I would've never guessed that to be the issue haha
