I just draw periodic function graphs in a timeline automation strip. It's not hard to get triangle, sawtooth, or square, but to get sine is a bit tricky. However I can get something close to a sine wave.
And for detune you could've just copied the instrument and change the tune a bit, but we have a pedal for CONVINIENCE. Also, what if I want an lfo that's not in the tempo of a track?
