Hello Audiotool team and forum goers! I hope that you are all doing well in these trying times!
Myself, like other musicians are thrilled to be using the new support for Live audio recording in the app!
Unfortunately it is lacking some very important features for a great few of us :(
This stops us from recording the best samples for our music and limits us in certain ways.
Today I'd like to share my feedback and thoughts on the new features.
Calibration settings should be saved, or the process scrapped.
I personally find the calibration process to be very difficult with my condenser microphone. It involves me uncomfortably forcing my headphones against the face of the microphone so that It picks up the playback of the calibration tones. My computer system's audio settings are optimised for my everyday usage of VOIP programs and audio recording. I do not see it appropriate to increase my playback volume or mic sensitivity because this would create more problems than it solves. Due to my headphones being pressed against the microphone, it creates a lot of noises which confuses the audio engine trying to calibrate my recording device. This means that it is not able to recognise a stable state, stopping me from calibrating my recording device.
I can imagine that most people do not experience the same issues that I do, but It would be incredibly useful if the calibration process was able to be skipped or if it were to be refined to allow for the use of my microphone. I do not know how much the process helps with recording in the app, so forgive me if having the option to skip calibration seems out of the question. But I would rather move audio clips around in the timeline to fix latency issues than not being able to recording with my microphone at all :)
I think it would also be very convenient if calibration settings per recording device were remembered, client side. This would mean that you do not need to undergo the calibration process each time you want to record. Though I do not quite understand if this would have a negative impact by having varying latency when recording in different drafts.
No support for Amplifiers (USB/LINE OUT)
This really makes me tear my eyes out as a guitarist excited to record samples!
Due to the way that calibration takes place each time you using the recording features inside of the app, it makes recording through my USB guitar amp output unfeasible. It is not possible to have the calibration tones played through my amp to get past the calibration step. As the calibration step is not able to be skipped, it means I cannot record my amplifier output. This leaves me with only the choice of recording my amp through my super sensitive condenser microphone which is set up primarily for recording my voice and not recording guitar.
I must iterate again, that I do not know the ins and outs of how important the calibration process is when recording live audio in to the app. But I do know that I would be happier with manually positioning audio clips in draft due to high latency rather than not being able to record high quality audio from my amplifier at all.
So these are my issues with the current state of the live audio recording features inside of the app.
Myself and others are incredibly grateful and happy that Audiotool is continuing to be developed and improved with new features as time goes on!
I hope that my feedback offers the team some insight into problems myself and others have experienced.
Thank you for your continued hard work!

At least we should make that step optional. Maybe allow the user to enter a value. This might not work for every setup but makes it at least feasible to record and fix afterwards.
This is much appreciated! Thanks :)
I'm super excited to try it out when it's available. Thanks for the swift responses and solutions! <3
Hey! Thrilled to be able to record my guitar into the app with little hassle now :D
I made a little loop to try and get the manual calibration right: https://www.audiotool.com/track/bq6iji16uq/
It's not quite perfect, and i'm sure that i'm not helping it stay in time haha
I will let you know if any ideas come to me. For the meantime, I'm just happy i can record my instruments into the app!
