It would be practical to have ordering options for the topic list in addition to the only current one (most recently commented). For example:
*By title (alphabetical)
*By date posted
*By author (alphabetical)
*By tag (alphabetical, useful for bug report boards)
This would be useful especially since the search field doesn't seem to work to search topics by any of these parameters, for example author or tag. This would require breaking down the attributes of each topic in a row and placing two triangle icons (ascending and descending order) above each column to order the list by each corresponding attribute.

I agree, however I had an idea recently that could act as a companion to this, allowing users to sort content by how trending it is (i.e. engagement rate: sequences of comments rather than individual and viewership) similar to sites like reddit and other forums.
This would be helpful because sometimes old content is commented on and bumps right back to the top of the page, but no one is really engaged with it. Essentially, it'd be a kind of check and balance on the method of bumping old content.
I'd go as far to argue that this should be the default view.
