yes, you are right. It could be even less drums for more forcusing sound itself. On the other hand, focusing more pop phase, i think it also could be nice to have better groove. And probably most people prefer it.
yas - If the drums had been any more complex, they would have taken away from the impact of the guitar work. That's a big part of the reason this track works so well....we're not distracted from the amazing soundscape you've created by invasive percussion.
