You could try automating the volume so it cuts out certain parts of the breath. Do this by right clicking on the audiotrack section in the timeline, and then hit automation. You then drag the line to where it starts or just where the word ends and that should work.
Or another method would be cutting the breaths out manually by using the snipping tool. You'll need to make sure that it's at 1/128 though because that will give you more room to cut it in my opinion. Effects could do the trick too, but I for one would do automations because it's much quicker in my opinion.
