I can't even wrap my head around who thought and how Trap Kid is even considered racial. It's literally just people without talent, and I believe no one was like "oh, they must be black".
Assessment by a veteran moderator of the sample apocalypse
To me, the term "Trapkid" feels similar to labels like Boomer, Millennial, or Gen X to Z. That said, not everyone from this generation or with this particular taste in music necessarily fits the label. What really stood out to me about this group of Audiotool users was how intensely they prioritized becoming famous over creating quality, self-produced music. Instead of using our studio and community to develop their skills, they often went straight for fame. They delivered tracks hourly, consisting mostly of a non-compliant music loop over a non-compliant drum loop. They posted these tracks in a copy-paste manner on as many walls as possible and came up with all kinds of tricks to climb as high as possible on the charts.
I think, since it was trap at the time, which was the hot thing back then, and of course, because there was enough material available to grab, it ended up being trap.
So, to summarize, my definition of a trapkid:
*Young
*Egocentric
*Listens to mainstream Trap music
*Draws the message of quick, reckless success from this style and the attitude of its famous producer rolemodels
*Not willing to invest time and effort into learning production techniques and composition
*Doesn’t care about rules or other people as long as they stand in the way of their quick "success"
It’s not unlikely that the term "trapkid" originated within our group of former admins. What I can say for certain is that, on our side, it had absolutely nothing to do with the user’s skin color—we didn’t even know their skin color in most cases. And if some bass music producers use this term in a derogatory, racist way, then maybe they should take a moment to learn about the origins of dubstep.
what you mentioned were always the main issues, there's no denying that. but, especially during a time where "mumble crap" was culturally looked down upon and the vast majority of the AT beats around then were emulating that style, i can't help but think that for some users the flame war was racially motivated
i think you're right to an extent, but i feel like the entire issue people had with trap kids was the fact that they only used samples, which made people upset because it didn't have the same "effort", and also the sampocalypse thing.
unless you're making the case that "disliking hiphop/rap is racist", which i don't think you are, I'm confused as to how that conclusion was drawn
hatred of rap and hip hop in general has always been racially motivated, i dont think its hard to see that some of the pushback against trap kids was motivated by this too
I always thought the term simply meant someone who posts basic trap beats out of mostly samples 24/7
I might be wrong, though
