Collaboration Updates

We have added some new collaboration features: It is now possible to easily invite all of your friends to a track (a friend is someone you follow and who also follows you). If you are feeling even more adventurous, you can also allow everyone in! To always keep you in charge of your track, new users can only join as long as you are active in the track. Opening up a session for all of your friends will also send out a notification to them.

These options can be found at the invite dialog in the app.

We also added a sidebar next to the newsfeed that (among other stuff) shows the currently active collaborations you can join.

Update #1: If you open up a track for everyone, it is always a good idea to use bookmarks frequently, so that you can revert changes you don't like.

Update #2: Owners and administrators of a track can now roll back changes done by other users (via the history panel on the right). Note that the keyboard shortcuts for undo / redo still concern your changes only. We also added an option to permanently ban a user from a track. This is done by simply removing them via the "get together" button.

Mini-Update #3: We have rewritten some parts of the network layer. Joining collaborations is now much faster.

  • thanks for letting me know.

  • thanks for the information

  • i did a collab with someone and he is the owner of the project and it wont let him publish it why is that ?

  • Can you explain the difference between an "Editor" and a "Admin" and what they each have access to?

    • Admin can publish/republish the track where Editor cannot.

    • So sorry to hear that mate. Loss of work is one of the worst feelings and I've had that before, but I can assure you, you will create bigger and better things in no time. Keep up the hard work!

Btw you can create bookmarks of your drafts (like snapshots of your work) in the app this will help in situations like this

    • I am absolutely devastated. I opened a track for collaboration and someone removed all of my creation. I was not active in the session when this happened o I don't know how this happened without my permission. I am absolutely devastated by this. Please inform me if there is anything I can do about his?

  • nice!

  • I'd seriously advise everyone to have fun and open as many "Everybody" sessions as they want. There's a cool feature called Bookmarks you can use to make snapshots of your draft in case any vandals come along and you want to go back to how it sounded before. Problem solved :)

    • I'm currently working on the history so that admins the owner of a track can easily roll back changes made by others. There will also be a way to quickly ban users from a track.

    • Martin already told the community about bookmarks. It's even mentioned in the topic text above. But even then, as soon as the session is open to everyone, any subsequent work will be very likely deleted. Judging from the reports it is happening very often. Where's the fun in that?

  • I'd seriously advise everyone not to open a session to "Everybody" for now. At the moment you can't invite them as Viewers, they automatically join as Editors and you run the risk of a vandal joining your session and deleting your arrangement completely. There have been several such reports lately. Invite only selected, trusted friends or people in Viewer mode.

    • @Kepz I'm not scaring anybody. Just describing a circumstance which is clear from all the reports AT has been receiving. There are too many users frustrated with the experience already. Right now, every session opened for everybody as editors is going to attract vandals and end up deleted. This is the unfortunate reality. Of course you can use bookmarks, but there's little point in opening the session if you're always going to have everyone's work deleted and have to go back to the bookmark state.

    • Don't scare people from opening "Everybody" sessions. There's a simple solution to combat vandals. You can save bookmarks (snapshots) of your drafts to always go back to.

  • So if I just go into one of my drafts anyone can join?

    • yeah thanks for not being like the immature people "it literally says it you retard" I'm just making sure :)

    • Didn't meant to offend you. I just wanted to know if there's some misleading information around.

And yeah - I'd like more people to just downvote troll-posts rather than debating or joining.

    • but no need to say it like that just let me know yes or no

  • Correction: If you open up a track for everyone, it is always a good idea to use bookmarks frequently, so that you can revert back when people think it is funny to delete the entire track

  • It seems that the status "Editor" or "Viewer" can't be chosen for the three categories of invited users (Only invited, Friends, Everybody). They automatically join as Editors and their status can only be changed afterwards on a one by one basis. Only users invited by name on the text input field can have their status assigned prior to joining. It would be good that the status could be chosen for any selected category prior to joining.

    • Maybe it would be easier if everyone joined as viewer by default and can be permitted afterwards on a one-by-one basis. I guess it doesn't make sense to add more then like 5 editors which can easily be handled manually.

This is just theory - you might have more practice as reference.
