Featured Artist: Kurp

Kurp undeniably stands as an artist who has discovered his distinctive style over the course of his eight years on Audiotool, and it's truly remarkable. His subtle use of the waveshaper to delicately graze his pads is a trademark Kurp technique, infusing his tracks with an unmistakable atmospheric richness. His music, with its organic and analog feel, works harmoniously with industrial-ish Techno rhythms, crying pads, and hypnotic arpeggios. This combination creates a captivating sonic experience that blends technical expertise, profound musical comprehension, and heartfelt emotion. For good reason Kurp is considered one of the record holders when it comes to visualized track features. His music is just perfect for overlaying unsettling, psychoactive visuals. Interview:
About kurp
Greetings from Lithuania. I have been on audiotool since 2015 or 8 years. Currently I am 20 I have other hobbies like programming but I mostly focus on music. Favorite pizza style? Chicken and onions all the wayyy
Describe the style of music you produce
My style of music changes as I go on. It used to be little electro doodles, then techno, then electro tracks then cinematic pieces. I create melancholic music alot of the time, it just sounds the most comforting. The only constants are use of arpeggiators, simple waves (sawtooth mainly), delays/reverbs and distortion. My biggest inspirations are Lorn and Floating Points
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
Audiotool is my music background :-P I started using Audiotool 8 years ago, which means I have been on since I was 12 years old. I have not much else to say except this is where it all started for me. Completely self taught, I neglect to look at any tutorials, I feel like I would start to create what everyone else is making if I use tutorials. All my 8 years of history on Audiotool is completely here for everyone to see. Not a single track is hidden, all stuff from day 1 is there for you to see.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
The Matrix was the best thing that happened to me. It allowed me to create arpeggios with much more ease. And the random function is a godsend for art-block.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
For some reason adding a Waveshaper to something just makes it sound a lot better. I don't know why, but that's how it is. And if you have a long release envelope for your synth it makes some nice harmonic sounds depending on what notes you use. Or maybe I am deaf and it sounds terrible haha, I don't know
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I cannot remember the last time I had art block, maybe 2 years ago. My recommendation is to prevent it from happening.
I think the reason why art block occurs is for many reasons. You develop a personal relationship with your draft and don't want to upload something that is unfinished or not suitable for your standard of quality. I say just stop caring about that, do whatever is the most fun. An idea can't bring you to space, you need to let go if you can't think of a single thing to add to your draft. The important thing is that you had some fun creating it, now it cannot bring you any more enjoyment, now just let everyone else listen to it. I put all my demo drafts in an album called "demo mixes" it's all my drafts I could not bring myself to finish demo mixes . The rest of my music is created within two weeks or a week, over 4 hours in total not including breaks and days in-between. I recommend the same workflow, don't spend more than two weeks on the same draft.
Or another reason could be that you are just sick of doing the same things over an over again or you are probably burnt out from forcing your music out. I recommend listening to music if you aren't already doing so. But not just your regular music, something else, a new artist maybe. music.youtube.com has a radio feature which allows you to listen to similar music to your favorite song or artist. Maybe you will hear something that catches your ear and you want to incorporate into your music. And I guess the most obvious answer is just wait, continue opening and closing the daw... Eventually you will find a new sound to work with.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
I learned the best through remixing other people's stuff. I did this for a few years until I finally decided to start creating my own stuff, I wouldn't use presets or anything since I wanted to make my own sounds. The biggest inspirations to me were opaqity and looks (luxior) Their music had so many ideas within them and it was not just about sound design, but adding melodic stuff throughout their music in a way so that it does not sound like it repeats over and over. I failed to understand this until recently that, that is what makes good music sound good. You could make music with just three pulvs and percussion and you can still make it sound good as long as you choose some great chords and put in nice music ideas. Having simple sound design can be an aesthetic.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
From my personal experience the best thing about audiotool is the community. Some people don't like it but i've had no real issue. It's who you surround yourself with is the issue. The reason why the community is great is because you can easily get an audience on audiotool. You can get people to help you with your music, collaborate and listen to other people's demo tracks and such, create remixes with ease. It's just a really great space to start your music hobby here. I cannot imagine starting off using another mainstream DAW and uploading on soundcloud or youtube or something. Because... well, soundcloud and youtube and bandcamp is a community of *listeners*. And audiotool is a community of *artists*. That's what makes audiotool a special community. A large community of artists is hard to come by.
If I could suggest anything it would be for the studio. It would be nice to have more random modulation. And macros... For example, right click on a note clip to transpose it by 12, or -12. Or scale it by 50% or 200%. Or right click on an automation clip and click on a button that says random values! And it creates a bunch of random modulation for you!
Your message to the community:
Create for the purpose of fun. Even if nobody likes your music, at least you do and had fun while creating it.

Featured Artist: okin

If you went back in okin's playlist to his (visible) beginnings on Audiotool in 2018, you wouldn't discover anything surprising: even back then, it seemed clear where he was heading. His opening track lost vale is an Ambient piece that tells a story full of melancholy and hope. You can see the images of the fictional film for which he created these enchanting harmonies. Until today, this uplifting, dreamy mood runs like a thread through his work. His - still other-worldly - melodies, in incomparable mature sound creations and beat constructions, skillfully span the arc between daydream and danceability and are thus much more than pure relaxation music.
Interview:
About okin
22, born and raised in the UK I come from a very small town where i've pretty much lived my entire life. My favorite genres are Future Bass, Lofi, Pop and many others.
Describe the style of music you produce
I started out making riddim/dubstep style music since I was listening to artists like Knife Party, Rekoil, Nero the list is too long but you get the idea, overtime that has changed and I am more open to the idea of trying new styles since i've never liked the idea of being boxed permanently into one genre. So I now make various genres anywhere between Ambient, Trap, Experimental, Soundtracks, Lo-Fi, if you want...go check them out.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I actually started Audiotool in '2012' which is weird to think (yes i am old okay don't remind me) back then I had a group of friends that introduced me to the site and at the time we would mess around in the APP. Obviously back then you couldn't actually invite people to drafts so we'd bunch up over one computer and mesh samples... the music was bad, I'll leave it at that. However, they moved on from the site which left me sort of deciding if I wanted to stay or leave with them... I never saw myself getting anywhere with it because I was always anxious to show it off but decided to stick it out for the fun it brought me, I never had WiFi in some of my younger years so any moment I had the chance to get online I went straight on Audiotool. Four years later I created this account and the rest is history...
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
All of them, genuinely I cant think of one that I don't like.
What is your favourite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
Usually, I start out most drafts with the melody or atmosphere of a track first, so I can get a grasp on where to take it. either Heisenberg or Pulv work then simply add different elements like percussions and effects to expand the track you got going... In short click things until it sounds good, works a charm
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Yes, multiple times. My only solution is usually to ride it out and then I get this burst of creative ideas all at once again, so I try and get down concepts and expand on them as soon as possible. However, some solutions I'd recommend taking a break, listen to different music, try timed challenges like make a track in 30 minutes (usually good ideas come from under time restraints) but yeah just don't stress and give it time.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
I've had the pleasure to meet many fantastic artists that have reached out and gave feedback throughout the years which reshaped how I approach and create music some of them include, Ollie, Vulkron, Tornsage, Naut and many more without most of these kind and supportive artists I don't even know where I’d be right now.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I like Audiotool because even as things change; it remains rooted to what I have always known it to be. A good medium accessible for everyone, simplistic to learn for beginners with zero music knowledge while also holding high quality resources for professionals to take their talents to the next level. The choice is entirely up to the creator which is why I love it.
Your message to the community:
Thank You, I just wanted to say that I am blessed to have met so many of you, it’s still surreal, I can't describe how much every single one of you have impacted me. I don't know everything when it comes to music but what I do know is the journey I’ve had I will cherish forever. Show respect to each other and be nice to those who are new <3

Retro is one of our inconspicuous heroes. His tracks bear witness to immense musicality and advanced know-how. In addition to all the technical finesse, his music also exudes liveliness and a funky freshness that is simply fun to listen to. His "Artblock" and "Dead Drafts" series suggest what his drafts hide and want to come to the surface, and makes each of us long for a creative block if those are the results. He is one of the greats, and we're glad it has finally worked out. Come by for a coffee sometime if you are ever downtown.
Interview:
About Jonas aka retro
Hey, my name is Jonas. I'm from Cologne, Germany and I've been on Audiotool for 8 years. At the beginning I was mainly just listening to music and sometimes looking at remixable drafts to try to understand what's going on. In 2016 I started making 8-bit covers on @8bit_n_chiptune and then in 2017 I made the @retrorhythm account to start making some actual music. Sometime between 2018 and 2019 I also started posting unfinished and failed drafts to @sheesh . I came across Audiotool via a friend of mine that happened to also be friends with Martin Below (@mbelow) who was working on this amazing website where you can make music online, and for free. Obviously I had to check it out and then got sucked into this little bubble of like minded people. I've been more or less active ever since and don't plan on leaving. I don't have a favorite style of music. I listen to jazz, classical music, electronic music and everything in between. I'm not picky when it comes to pizza, but if i had to choose i'd say pizza prosciutto is my favorite
Describe the style of music you produce
I have no idea how I would describe my music. I would say it usually has a certain groove to it and doesn't take itself too seriously. I try to incorporate somewhat interesting harmonies in my tracks with it still being digestible for the average listener.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I can't remember when I started making music. It probably all started when I was still really young. My parents make music, my brother makes music, most of my friends, and even many of my neighbors make music. So as far as i can think back, i've been surrounded by musicians. I learned to play piano by ear and only started taking lessons many years later. Now I have been taking piano lessons for over 16 years, and 8 years ago I started taking bass lessons as well. Over time I also accumulated all sorts of instruments I found interesting and started learning them on my own. Audiotool was my first experience with music production on the PC. When I joined Audiotool I was amazed by the type of music people made here and thought: „I want to make that too”. Little did I know how much it would actually influence my musical journey. Since then I studied Audio-Visual Media Design and worked in different recording studios.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
Probably the Pulverisateur. It was the easiest to understand synth for me when I started on Audiotool. The analog synth styling is timeless, and the whole layout is easy to understand.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
I don't really use a lot of tricks. Everything I do is pretty straight forward. Something I like to do is layering noise with my percussion using the Pulv. Or use just the Pulv to make hi-hats which works really well and is extremely easy. Activate only the noise oscillator, put the sustain on 0%, and use the decay to adjust the length of the hat. Something I only do sometimes is using the note splitter to play up to 3 synths at once. This can save some space in your timeline. Just connect the outputs of the notesplitter to the note input of your synths, right click on the note splitter, click on 'create note track', and now everything you draw in this note region will be played by all connected synths
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Something that seems to work for me is only listening to music that you're not usually interested in and studying it. And if that doesn't work just don't make or listen to any music at all for a while. Just take a break.
Trying to force, it will make it worse.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
What has helped me when I started was opening up tracks of other users and just studying the draft, looking at what they did and thinking about why they did it that way. And what has definitely widened my horizon is the diversity of the music people make on Audiotool. I discovered genres I never even heard of before.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
Well, what I like most on Audiotool is obviously the community ;). No but seriously, the amount of artists on here that are easily distinguishable in their style while having the same set of devices as everybody else is astounding, and the pure talent and creativity on this site is endless. I don't really have a suggestion. I know the Audiotool team is working hard on improving the site, and it's honestly a miracle to me that Audiotool can sustain itself.
Your message to the community:
Just keep making stuff, and don't take yourself too seriously.

Featured Artist: Civility

With Civility we welcome another great singer-songwriter on board of our highly talented featured artist forge. His across-the-board sensitive, magnificently composed indie songs go straight to the ear and heart, which is due in no small part to his outstanding unobtrusive voice and composition skills. He doesn't belong to artists with a particularly high output rate, but when he delivers, it's always to the point and shows powerful emotional depth. Don't miss out on exploring his music.
Interview:
About Justin Starks aka Civility
I’m originally from New York but currently reside in Florida for school. I’ve been with audiotool for Six years and my favorite style definitely has to be dream pop or indie pop.
Describe the style of music you produce
The style of music that I create is inspired a lot by the 80s and 90s. It derives from both acid rock and synth-pop as well. I just love the sounds of the 80s and 90s. I’ve also identified with artists like Beach House and Animal Collective. Music that sounds very dream like or omnipresent. I wanted my music to be an experience and unique but still catchy and fun every time to replay it.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I’ve been singing and performing since I was born. I come from a musical family that always encouraged me to be creative and sing. I taught myself how to produce and record after my grandfather who wrote songs for the likes of Jennifer Hudson and worked at Motown gave me this old apple laptop that had Garage Band on it when I was like 10 and ever since then music has been my lifeline and my comfort.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
My favorite Audiotool device has to be the delay because the amount variety it gives you not only for vocal recordings but chords as well construction as well. And I think that it’s a valuable tool to use when you want different sounds or a different vibe for your music.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
Always use the Metronome! It’s a simple thing to say, and people probably are like “that’s definitely not a trick.” it may sound obvious, but having an understanding of the pace can allow you to really challenge to think outside the box. It really makes me think and be more creative.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Usually when I have writer’s block I take a step back and allow myself time to reflect and not force myself to create. There is no rush to put music out there you know? Work at your own pace and allow yourself to work at a speed that will benefit you.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
The community actually helps me get better and become a better artist. Just by seeing the feedback from other well established users really help me reevaluate and improve upon my skill. It’s truly wonderful how much I’ve learned from others on this platform and the people I’ve met have been so nice and supportive and it makes me really happy.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I love how community based Audiotool is. having people who do what you do interact with your art and engage with you is such an amazing thing and that’s what Makes audiotool audiotool. I don’t have anything to suggest right now because I think the state in which audiotool is currently at is a good place and yes things could be better but I see improvements all the time so I’m content!
Your message to the community:
Always be yourself no matter what people say. Your creativity is what makes you valuable on this planet and don’t let other people or on peoples negative worldview or comments, affect your creativity. You find people who understand who you are and understand why you love to do the things that you do and those are the people that are going to always have your back!

Featured Artist: Amp7070

After writing over 150 texts for our featured artists, I've reached the point where I sometimes wonder if the word 'unique' should even be used so frequently and whether it can truly apply to so many musicians. And then I look at the list and see Amp7070, and all doubts are dispelled. We have so many unique musicians, and we can be proud of that. Amp7070 describes himself as genre phobic, and his playful mix of melancholic beauty and whimsical humor is truly difficult to classify within a specific style. However, it's hard not to feel the enthusiasm and (yes!) uniqueness of the early Indie and New Wave scene in his voice and compositions, when music was meant to break down genre barriers instead of conforming to them. For those who enjoy being surprised and can appreciate raw talent, joy in distinct music, and whimsical everyday stories, Amp7070 is highly recommendable.
Interview:
About Nathan Cook aka Amp7070
I am from, Surrey in the UK, and am currently in my second year of studying a bachelors in psychology at the University of Sheffield. I've been with Audiotool since 2016 with my old account Nova , so when I was around 13/14 years old (am now 19). My favourite pizza at the moment would have to be vegan funghi pizzas, yum!
Describe the style of music you produce
I am very bad with styles and genres, but I would estimate that I make things that happen to fall into the lines of indie electro/indietronica, but also occasionally pop out something that is more downtempo and chill. Before I introduced vocals into my tracks though I very much was making generic EDM, and chiptune.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I started making music when I was around 14, with Audiotool being the only DAW I've really used other than fl studio to cut out background noises on my vocals; I solely started making music with the selfish reason of wanting to make music that perfectly fitted my own tastes, but continued as it was really fun! My musical background involves being in a boys choir; where we did things like performing in Tosca at the Royal Opera House, and touring places in Europe, like going to sing in Berlin Cathedral. I also have grades in singing, violin and piano; and recently my latest endeavor has been joining a music theatre society at my uni, where last semester I was cast member in '9 to 5' by Dolly Parton, and this semester currently rehearsing for a show called 'Sweeney Todd' by Stephen Sondheim which has been such a good experience!
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
I would have to say the Pulverisateur. Nothing beats the beepy noises it makes; makes my day every time I am able to behold its power.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
It is quite questionable, but I always put a quantum on absolutely anything and everything that makes a sound in any of my tracks. I don't know why I do it, but somehow it makes me feel like everything is going to be all right. Other than that I also love to add compression to absolutely everything (including vocals which I know some people would equate to evil), tricks me into thinking that the song has more beats than it actually does.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Because I normally make music to vent my feelings, when I am feeling empty and nothing interesting is happening to me is when I normally get writer's block. If I want to make music and this is the case, I think the best thing to do is to find a song that you think is really cool, and try to recreate it in your own way, and in my own experience I normally end up with something that sounds completely different to the original song!
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
It would definitely have to be remixing other peoples tracks when you are confused as to how they were able to make a certain noise on a track, and if remix isn't open, just ask! I just think that because of the way that the Audiotool website is set up, it is so easy to become inspired by other people and learn new things.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I like everything about Audiotool! It is so obvious that the team behind the website just want to help people to be able to create music; and it is shown through how accessible absolutely everything is all for the price of nothing!! It also helps that there is such a good community of people on the website who are always happy to help each other and lift each other up. I also think that the way everything is laid out on the app has made it so easy for people who know absolutely nothing about music production (like me 7 years ago) to be able to make a start at doing something that they might not necessarily thought was possible for themselves before.

Out on Youtube: Making of naswalt's contest winning track 303 '23

Organizing contests is on the one hand a lot of fun and exciting. On the other hand, it's proof of the amazing and talented bunch of people we have in our community, as we could once again prove in our 303 Day Contest. Naswalt took it to a whole new level with his winning track "303 '23", raising the bar even higher. He didn't just create a whole orchestration out of Bassline 3 and a few effects, but with his voice and composition in general, he conjured up a soulful pop sensation that's both a nerdy masterpiece and a certified earworm! "303 '23" is a groovy and soulful hit that once again shows what is possible with Audiotool and talent that knows no bounds. Naswalt generously allowed us to peek over his shoulder in this video, giving us an inside look into his creative process. It's such an exciting and inspiring experience to witness a talented musician like him at work!

Featured Artist: Vault Boy

The last and one of the youngest artists in the first round is a guarantor for nasty basses and heavy drums. At a young age, Vault Boy is already one of the top players in our well-established Bass Music and Dubstep gang. So buy some ear protection, pump up the volume and bang your heads to Vault Boy's audible punch in the gut.
Interview:
About Vault Boy :
My name is Vincent and I am 16 years old. I can play the piano, guitar and ukulele heh not tryna flex or anything... anyway I’ve been on here for like 2 years maybe a little more now but when I first started it was actually for school like they made me use it in music class it was pretty fun so I kept using it when I got out of the class I used to make music at school all the time because I never talked to anyone and I got bullied like a lot. like bro have the stuff happened to me wasn’t even my fault it was because I was in special ed classes at the time, and I got the shit beat out of me almost daily. Looking back on it now is just funny, because it doesn’t even matter anymore, I got out of special ed and know I’m just a normal basic kid who likes making dubstep. Is that personal enough? idk I mean not like it’s a huge secret lmao just look at the way I act...
Which artist has had the most influence on you (on and/or outside Audiotool)?
The person that inspired to even make music would be Skrillex, his best/iconic song for me would be easily "Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites"
Who would you like to work /collaborate with on and outside Audiotool, and why?
If it would be anybody it would just have to be Virtual Riot like c’mon its VR who wouldn’t want to collab with that guy.
Which film/game would you like to produce the score for or contribute a song to?
I always wanted to sound design a fighting seen in an anime. One of the best ones is from sword art online where they have these crazy glitch effects while there fighting.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I go through writer’s block. I deal it with by making moans into basses and I know that sounds weird but just sound designing differently can get you out of the "rut". Honestly just have fun while making music, when I try hard and not having fun it doesn’t turn out good and then I get writers block.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
Honestly there is so many. Almost every Bass Music producer helped me ahem Asstrel ( kinda cute ngl), JoVee, Project Epsilon, Client, Siren, etc. There. are so many lmao I can’t even remember all of them.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
The most I like about this website is that it’s free (obv makes it good) and can be used on literally anything like even on a crappy phone (don’t ask how I know that). But I would suggest an actual downloadable DAW so it doesn’t lag as much. I think AT has great potential.

Featured Artist: mxcii

We are pleased to introduce mxcii as the 150th featured artist of the second generation. At the latest, since his victory at Audiotool Day 22, it should be clear what kind of talent we're dealing with here. With his crystal-clearly produced, complex drum and bass pieces, he's not only at the forefront of this own genre on Audiotool. In his seven years of membership, he certainly hasn't had the highest output of all, but one that is always of very high quality, and that's been the case from the very beginning. So we can be curious about what comes next. I'm sure it will be good.
Interview:
About Luis Galan aka mxcii
Hey there, my name is Luis Galán, aka mxcii. I'm 21 years old and I live in Copenhagen, Denmark. Currently, I work as a software developer, and I am looking forward to starting uni soon. I've been a part of the Audiotool community for 9 years now, and it's where I first started making music. Besides music, I'm also interested in games, math, cooking and cycling.
Describe the style of music you produce
Generally speaking, I just make whatever kind of music I feel like at the moment. Here on Audiotool, that usually ends up being some kind of drum and bass, but I'm interested in lots of different styles and genres.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I began learning to play guitar when I was around 6 years old, but otherwise I don't have any formal music education. I discovered Audiotool back in 2014, because I wanted to make music like Skrillex. A lot has changed since, but I still enjoy making music here and sharing it with you guys :)
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
I feel like a little bit of tube just spices up any sound.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
I recently realized that putting a Tube on the master channel and putting the drive to 0% makes the distortion from clipping audible while mixing. Since then, my Audiotool mastering chain has usually consisted of feeding a Gravity compressor into a 0% drive Tube. Since the compressor usually doesn't affect the transients of my mix (ie they're still above the clipping threshold), they get slightly distorted by the tube and the drums stay punchy. It does take some tweaking to get right, but I think the results are usually pretty nice.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I mostly make music for fun, so if I feel like I'm struggling to come up with ideas, I tend to just do something else for a while. Somtimes I end up taking long breaks at a time, but with time I've found that I always find inspiration eventually, and then I'm back on the music grind :)
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
There's a huge variety of styles of music on Audiotool, and I really think being exposed to that has had a huge impact on both the music I make and the music I listen to. Also, I want to give a huge shoutout to opaqity . He has helped me a TON with getting good at music, and I really don't think I would've been where I am today without his help. Hope you're doing well mate.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
One thing that I find very unique about Audiotool is the ability to open up other people's tracks and see how they're made. I've learnt so much from doing this, and I'm still learning even more. Audiotool, as opposed to other daws, is extremely accessible and just a great place for learning music in general. If I was to suggest something, it would probably be a device for resonance suppression, either in the style of Soothe 2, or as a dynamic eq. This is something I use extensively outside of Audiotool, and I feel it would really take mixing in Audiotool to the next level.

Toolers!
Are you ready to push the boundaries of music and create something undeniably outrageous to become the proud owner of one of these three vibrant, one-of-a-kind gems, numbered to the top three winning spots?
We're not looking for mindless garbage music. We want ideas so over-the-top that they'll make the listener laugh or cringe in secondhand embarrassment.
Whether you want to compose a melody that's so awful it sticks in the listener's head or write cheesy lyrics that are so corny, they knock the listener out or create a buildup that ends in a disappointing drop that leaves the listener speechless. We're after the most embarrassing and ridiculous tracks out there. Remember, we want to find the most cringe-worthy and ridiculous music that is well-composed and expertly produced.
So, we won't judge the winners on their ability to make us laugh or cringe but also on their skills as musicians or producers. It's time to push the limits and show us what you've got!

Interview:
About emre girginkaya (voyd)
My name is Emre Girginkaya. I am 28 years old and I am from İstanbul/turkey. I think I have been in this community for almost 6 years. I started making music that was highly influenced by Tlim Shug (VLTRA). I saw on youtube that people were saying he was currently making music with this audiotool.com. Then I started to use this software to produce lo-fi house hip hop music in the beginning. But now I try to produce more abstract, experimental and ambient stuff.
Describe the style of music you produce
İ am producing experimental music nowadays. I don't know how to program any synth, I mainly use the samples in the website ,also chopping from my records and process in Audiotool. I can say my style is more like sound designing and creating weird beats with these samples.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I don't have any musical background. However, I’ve always been curious about sound, the way of producing music and so on.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
I think it's Machinist, I can do almost everything with it! I love the way of working step sequences and doing lots of experiments with pitch modulations. İt is super nice!
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
I actually have two tricks for people who want to make Ambient music. I mainly use quasar with a high decay which is connected to any Machinist. I reverse the sample and automate the start point. This gives some sort of modulation to give the synth pad etc more variety. The second one is the point of any loop (especially for drums) : you can make a really interesting beat with this technique.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I never had one!
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
I remember I was watching some tutorials which are very few on youtube I guess, but I am big fan of all kinds of music. I think I owe this to listening to too much music. This inspires me a lot. Also, experimenting with all kinds of pedals, twisting knobs etc...
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I love this way of making music by using the internet. It might look a bit confusing for other people. But the interface is so friendly to me. I love the way of patching cables and it reminds me of vcv rack.

Featured Artist: WPX

WPX is an exemplary figure in the diverse and boundary-pushing world of Audiotool musicians. Masterfully his music merges seemingly opposing styles and elements to create a sound that is both unexpected and unconventional - experimental yet funky, fresh yet classic, old-school yet brand new and, despite its minimalistic approach, WPX's music is incredibly complex and rich in detail. Unsurprisingly, "ANALOG" is WPX's only descriptive artist tag. With such a broad range, I wouldn't want to restrict myself, either. With this feature as a clear invitation, there's no better time to explore WPX's unique and forward-thinking artistry. For any musician, encountering his work is sure to evoke a sense of awe and inspiration. Check out this Auditoool master of fusion.
Interview:
About Otto Montgomery aka wpx
I was born in Detroit Michigan and have spent most of my life in New York. I've used Audiotool since I was around 9 or 10 (19 years old now).
Describe the style of music you produce
It could be described as acid or simply electronic music, with some experimental aspects. I enjoy the analogue synthesizer sounds and creating lush melodies and thick basses. Recently I've been compared to the likes of Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, etc. which is a huge honor for me since they were some of my main inspirations.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I have no formal musical background or training. I started making loop based music at a very young age (8 i think?) on a website called ClubCreate. I can't remember the exact reason but the website had shut down for some copyright scam or something like that. I had to find an alternative to make my goofy dubstep loops and I found Audiotool. I was instantly hooked as I mixed and matched the loops. As a young Skrillex enthusiast it was addicting. As time went on I delved into more complex sample work and eventually synth stuff.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
Besides the Pulv, I'm a big fan of the Helmholtz. For a lot of tracks its helped me bring out a really unique, phat color in my basses that I find addicting.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
Honestly nothing in particular comes to mind. I use relatively simple techniques to make my music and always have. I find that finding that using certain quieter synths as background layers to a main one can add a lot of depth and flavor to a sound that can't necessarily be replicated with effects pedals.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I think trying your best to stay consistently creative is a difficult task. Don't be afraid to try something numerous times and fail, and always look for deeper meaning and inspiration in your own life. Sleep and dreams are important for creativity, so try to prioritize those. I think trying to force tracks out will never work, ultimately. The best ideas always come at random, I've noticed. if you're experiencing a block, give yourself time, give yourself rest , and surely something will come to you when you least expect it.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
I'm still learning each day, but just listening to other's tracks, even when their style is completely different from mine, gives me new perspectives, inspirations and ideas that I can implement into my own style. I'm genuinely inspired by a lot of people here.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I love the browser based aspect and the community of course. That's what makes AT special. I'm very grateful for the friends i've made here and hope to continue to use this site as long as possible.

Track #4:
gentle breeze, night by An angel
An Angel / Jeffhargrave’s sounds have been classics in my mind for many many years. Although he is not very active any more, the stuff on his old account and new one strike me in a dark and pleasant way and always have. All of his tracks take me to Silent Hill, a dense fog that I can wallow in. I still have all of his band camp releases on my phone from years ago.

Track #5:
forest (no sample) by sea foam and the wind
Sea foam is an expert of sound design, and this track in particular I am very thankful for. I have meditated to this almost every day for over a year now, and every time I hear it my mind is reminded of peace. I just find it simply beautiful and so calming. Props to Sea Foam for his experimentation with sounds.

Featured Artist: ▽Momo▽桃.

▽Momo▽桃. is undoubtedly one of Audiotool's top-notch users. Just over 100 followers separate her from the artist's top ten, which would make her the first artist in it who has been active on Audiotool for less than five years. Her self-confident manner [editor's note: "snotty" was probably not a good choice of words] certainly doesn't go down well with everyone, but we can agree that this kind of polarization makes her a true star. Especially since she manages to transport this fearlessness into crisp pieces of music that are always truly entertaining and figuratively full of funkiness, no matter to what genre they belong.
Please carry on delivering many more kick-ass beats in the future!
Interview:
Monique aka ▽Momo▽桃. :
My name is Monique, I am from Africa / Nigeria and I’ve been with Audiotool for a rough estimate of 4 years. I mostly love all types of arts because it inspires me to express myself as much as I possibly can. I am currently working towards becoming a cosmetologist and will keep music very close to me in the future. I like drawing I like singing I like talking to people I like making music (obviously) I like ONLY cheese pizza >:0 I LOVE positive people
Describe the style of music you produce
My music is always in the style of what I’m currently feeling that day. Happy, sad, mean, toxic (lol), expressful, joyful and creative. I always make sure that only I can hear whatever my music says to me. I would consider myself very fluid in music making although I don’t experiment that well on it. I mostly create trap and house music because it’s the music that moves me more than all the other genres.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I actually don't really have a musical background, I just really needed something to calm my nerves so I really just searched up "things to do when you're bored" at around 9 years old, and I started loving music so much that I wanted to start my own music. At first I would start off by copying other people styles until I found mine. I started on a site called "Looplabs" and I thought I would never get better until I got to Audiotool …
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
My favorite device on Audiotool is definitely going to be the Matrix. Hook anything up to that thang and you got yourself some space music. lol. But the Matrix captures even the simplest melodies and adds creativity and life into them.
What is your favourite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
My favorite trick in AT is how bouncy I make my Trap beats sound. I can automate them from the top to bottom, so it gives it that catchy bouncy sound.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
For a fact I have had writers block, multiple times, and I personally just go to the studio and go absolutely bonkers fam. I deal with it by drafting, erasing then drafting again. until I find what makes me happy. Writers block can definitely make you feel like you want to give up, but don't get to frustrated with yourself and make sure you're not too busy in your personal life.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
Honestly the two main things that have helped me improve on Audiotool is the support I get from the community and close ones, and my passion for music.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I like the community the most on Audiotool: I like how friendly and welcoming people have become. I would say that there are a lot of underrated artists on here that I think deserve to be show-cased also but never do, so if there was any way to make that happen that would make me mucho happy.
Your message to the community:
Don't listen to your parents when they say music can't be a career, cause it can. This isn't 1956 anymore guys, people are definitely getting paid to be artists. Don't let people bring you down either, there’s something they think they know that they really don't. There’s something you know that they don’t and vice versa. Never get slept on, be active, get people to check out your beats, not for likes...but for crit and judgement. Encourage even people around you to check them out please. Getting publicity is NOT a one-way ticket, that’s why I can’t give you advice about it, because even I am not completely happy with where I am right now. But thanks for listening anyway, really appreciate you all ❤️

Featured Artist Special: Kepz

Kepz's story is a pleasure to tell: as a young teenager, he stumbled upon Audiotool and played a significant role in shaping its early years alongside the first generation of users. Over time, he matured musically from producing playful Trance and Melodic House anthems to crafting a chillier, deeper Dub Techno and Deep House sound. Although still so young, he won the Moog Fest Contest and travelled from Sydney to the USA to play a DJ set at the renowned festival. As Kepz continued to grow as an artist, he began playing at parties and enjoyed numerous releases on various Dub Techno labels. In 2022, he made a deep impression on us when he applied for the developer position we advertised. And now, at the beginning of 2023, Kepz has undertaken his second-long journey in the service of Audiotool. He's come to our Audiotool Basement in Cologne to support us in taking the next important step. But before I reveal too much, read on to discover how the story unfolded from his perspective.
Interview:
About Kepz
I'm a Ukrainian born, Australian based artist, DJ and software engineer. I release and perform under my alias Kooscha, paint landscapes, work at a local record store and now at Audiotool!
In the beginning I was making mostly Melodic House and Trance but later started experimenting with Ambient and other soundscapy genres such as Dub Techno. I tend to go through phases of styles as I like to latch on to ideas and explore them as much as possible.
What influence did your environment on Audiotool have on the development of your music?
Audiotool's early community can take the credit for shaping my music taste. It opened my eyes to a lot of underground genres that I hadn't heard before. There was a huge presence of really well crafted House and Techno in the early days which I learned a lot from.
What were your highlights over the last 12 years?
Being part of the community full of amazing artists back when I was a newbie. The trip to Moogfest where I met and partied with rnzr , Frigolito and Mr. Standfast . Helping with the design of Quasar. And this year finally meeting André Michelle , Snadbrugen , Martin Below and the rest of the current Audiotool staff!
Please tell the newer users about your experiences with the Moogfest Contest and describe your entry track and its creation
I produced a track specifically for the contest and worked really hard on it until it was my most polished work at the time. But alongside that track I also submitted an Ambient jam I made some time earlier with just one Pulverisateur (my track called 'Lost'). That jam ended up in 1st place. I remember waking up to lots of messages and comments and realised I must've won the contest. I couldn't believe it! I was so happy I'd get to finally meet some of the users and travel overseas by myself for the first time. Moogfest was amazing and I learned a lot about the history of Moog's synths and their impact on our world.
[Editor’s Note]
Moogfest was a festival Moog organized and it was hosted in synth pioneer Bob Moog's hometown Asheville, North Carolina in the US. Moogfest teamed up with Audiotool and invited anyone to produce a track using Audiotool and to submit it to the Moogfest Competition. The winners got to play a set during Moogfest in Asheville, in April 2014 when Kraftwerk was headlining the festival next to Laurie Anderson, Giorgio Moroder and a hundred other acts and different activations across town for music lovers. The winner tracks were also included on a limited edition release which went to the artists, VIPs and press who attended Moogfest.

How has Audiotool changed over the years from your point of view?
There are a lot more experiments, short sketches and beats being published. It's cool that people aren't afraid to share raw ideas. I think for people learning music production it's important to try a lot of things and get a lot of feedback. There was a lot of perfectionist mindset back in the day. Some artists went as far as deleting all of their own work or accounts because they thought their music wasn't up to a standard. I think current users are a lot more free and open minded in that sense. Audiotool really encourages a growth mindset.
We know you are still very busy on Audiotool. What does your daily production routine look like? What other equipment or software do you use?
I use Audiotool alongside Ableton. No production goes the same, but a simplified version is: Audiotool is for jamming and having fun and sketching ideas on the go. Ableton for working with hardware, working on remixes, focusing more on polishing. I feel proficient in both and I can work with either depending what I feel like doing or what I need to do and often I end up using both on one track. I export and reuse sounds, loops and synth lines from a lot of my Audiotool tracks. I guess I'll just always have a Pulverisateur shaped hole in my heart no matter which DAW I'm in!
How did you get involved in the subject matter that ultimately qualified you to work at Audiotool?
I've been in touch with the team for many years, helping out with various things. I didn't think there was even a possibility to work at Audiotool one day and turns out no one even knew I was a dev until recently! I was part of Audiotool Next beta testing for a couple of years, then I helped out with moderating for a bit (but it wasn't my thing), more recently I got involved with the creation of Quasar for which I modeled and rendered the new style of knobs. In 2022 Audiotool posted the ads and I was apparently the first applicant in the inbox! I literally dropped everything I was doing and wrote my application within 1hr of seeing the news. I also sent Andre some examples of own code from personal projects and got good feedback.
How did you fare when you finally got the acceptance?
I felt ecstatic but also relieved, because it was on my mind for so long during this several-months long application process. I told all my close friends and celebrated with some beers and a DJ mix at a friend's house :)
What was it like to travel from high-summer Sydney to wintry Cologne?
I was excited enough about Audiotool that I didn't really think about the weather. But it's not that bad! I just had to buy a warmer jacket and a scarf when I got here. I think the novelty of being in a new city is still making me excited to go outside.
Is there anything you may already reveal to the interested users?
There are many really cool things coming in the next year and beyond. I'm personally excited for some more professional tools for mixing and exporting stems which will improve cross-DAW workflows for power users (me :P). But there are also many cool ideas aimed at newcomers and jammers making the learning curve easier. I'm also helping improve the website experience, it's not my main task but I am dedicating some time for it each week as I think the community will really appreciate it!
What are the biggest (technical) challenges Audiotool is facing?
I'm assuming we have lots of technical challenges yet to discover during our Studio rebuild, but currently we know there is a lot of complicated code on the backend doing complicated things and using deprecated frameworks. We want to trial a simpler way of handling online collaboration, rethink our handling of user sessions and have more separation between website's front and back end while phasing out deprecated frameworks. I
What are you currently working on?
Rebuilding Probe together with jujuu . We're ditching Defrac and Java and now using Typescript with our little inhouse framework. We're starting with Probe as a learning exercise before fully diving into the bigger rebuild of the Studio with Andre. Alongside that, I'm cleaning up a lot of messy and complicated styling on the website. With the next few updates there should be more responsiveness, less visual bugs and a bit more consistency in it's design. After the bug fixing, there are plans to improve overall user experience and make the current design more finished.
What is the biggest challenge you want to take on?
I'm currently motivated to make improvements to the user experience on the website, which is why I jumped into to the big bug cleanup with Alemonia and SilasGyger . In the near future I'm also keen on implementing our planned new features with completely new interfaces. We've got plans for things that will take Audiotool to a whole new level. Integrating these features with the current Audiotool design and workflow will definitely be an interesting challenge as we've got a really unique DAW with it's own unique strengths.

Track #5:
Lava U by VLTRA
This is one of my all time favourite tracks on Audiotool and I was overjoyed to see it get a proper physical release under his alias Tlim Shug. The record is part of Cactus Traxx series and came with real seeds of Selenicereus Grandiflorus which is still growing strong at my sun soaked flat. It's actually gotten so big and limby it's claimed one of our chairs to itself.

Track #6:
self aware by Kepz
I think this is the first track that got me traction outside of Audiotool under the alias Kooscha. One of the first times I've heard my work in someone elses dj mix and people wanted to ID it. There's also a crazy video of a South African dj foreva_authentik playing it and filling up a dancefloor. People are chanting, jumping and climbing tables by the end, it's absolutely insane and so unexpected for a track like this. Brings a smile to my face every time I remember it. (edited)

Featured Artist: Siren

Siren's last track on Audiotool may have been a while ago, but that's no reason not to look closer at his work. His Bass-Music-inspired Hip Hop and Drum and Bass have always exhibited a high degree of professional coolness. It was not least this characteristic trait, but also the great chemistry between the three, that enabled him, in collaboration with Icebox and dcln, to bring home the victory for Audiotool in the Collaborative Music Contest 2021. His Insta videos also showcase that we're dealing with a cool cat with a wide range of remarkable skills and entertainment value.
Interview:
About SIREN
I'm a 19 year old producer/rapper/DJ from Penang, Malaysia who is currently working for Goldsounds Academy where we train people who want to be a DJ or Producer. I've started my music production journey on Audiotool about 5-6 years ago.
Describe the style of music you produce
I'm a multi-genre artist who can produce a wide array of genres, but as time moves on the SIREN style becomes clearer and clearer growing into either a deep, vintage lyrical focused Hip-Hop style or Bass Heavy driven electronic music with vocals as a side element.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
At the age of 5 I started playing the piano, that served as a basis for my musical journey. But for making my own music, It's when I first joined Audiotool back in 2017 where I dived into music production.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
Easy, the Helm-holtz (Comb-Filter) is my favourite Audiotool device because it gives such a cool effect to a sound especially when sound-designing. I use it for most of my bass heavy sounds on audiotool as it gives this metallic vibe to it.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
It has to be the pitch-delay technique that I use to tune vocals, as Audiotool does not have a direct way to tune stuff down or up in pitch without stretching a sample, the pitch-delay is a cool technique that lets us do it using an Effect.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Yes, countless times actually. But I think I have a good way of dealing with writer's block. The main factor contributing to writer's block is the lack of inspiration at a critical moment. How I counter this is by having ideas ready, either in my voice memos/notepad as memory cues of times when I get an idea. I would recommend everyone doing music to record down an idea once you get it or else it might be too late and you have forgotten the idea that you had. Another thing is to draw inspiration from anything, especially things in your life. Any random thing could spark inspiration, talk to more people, step out of your comfort zone and do things that you wouldn't normally do and ideas will come automatically.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
I think it's the moment where I met a fellow former Audiotooler who goes by the alias of Icebox. Leo (Icebox) is someone who is very close to me, and till this day we are still very much in contact. He's the one who advised me to start rapping in my music, and guided me how to incorporate vocals. Outside of Audiotool, as I am self-taught I didn't have a mentor for stuff like mixing/mastering or achieving the industry standard sound, Leo served as my primary guidance in that field, shared with me all his knowledge he has learned from attending SP Mad. Not only that, we have been through countless nights together staying up late just making music. If it weren't for him, I would still be lost.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
The thing I like about Audiotool the most, is the fact that it's free & allows live-time collaboration with other producers. Not many DAWs achieve this, the fact that you can pack this much power on something that is on the web alone still continues to wow me till this day & it's all for free.
Your message to the community:
Put your ego aside, put your titles aside, put your fame aside. And remember, you are a person making music. Some seek fame, some seek fortune, some seek recognition. And sometimes because of that we forgot about the one most important thing, The Craft. Hone your craft, hone it till you yourself are proud of it and the fame & fortune will come automatically. If you feel down & depressed, if you feel like nobody gives a damn about what you do. It's completely normal, but you have to overcome that and establish yourself. Do not let anybody stop you, they don't have the power to. The greatest enemy? Is yourself.

Featured Artist: Drimeur

Drimeur is one of the few remaining representatives of the old-school Tech-House genre. He sticks unerringly and authentically to the sound design and the structure of his idols and still gives his tracks that certain pinch of profound musicality and Frenchness. Let's call it the Drimeur factor. But he also presents other classic dance-floor filling styles like Acid, Techno and Retro Electro on his never-boring tracklist. If you haven't ever looked at his portfolio, which has been growing for 12 years, we strongly advise you to do it.
Interview:
About Raphael aka Drimeur
Hi everyone this is Rafael speaking. I'm a 30-year-old French guy who discovered Audiotool 12 years ago... Yeah it's been a while but I've found the tile between the studies and other stuff to really improve my skills on this wonderful device called Audiotool.I didn’t try that t illg that 3 years ago early in 2019. It's a bit rude to call it a device *cos to me it’ like the brush for the painter, the salt to the pepper, the silicon to Nicky Minaj : it allows the musician to flourish or anybody interested, far or close, in music. Aaaaaand it's free! So any nine-year-old trap OG on AT can improve themselves here ;) (be nice gentlemen we've all been through this). So let's talk about music because that's why we're in it, after all... I would say that I've had many favorite styles in my life. But for now it is house music, articularly deep house music. Talking about taste, I'm a salt/sugar man but... not on pizza pls... 😅 Let the Italian people be! Would you put strawberry jelly on a camembert? Never! Sacrebleu! So... Oh wait I think I did once... Nevermind. What was I saying?
Describe the style of music you produce
I'm not a music nerd and I kinda like the word nerd but when I make music I try to put across feelings that I use to produce my tracks. After all I think that for the most part of my music I wanted to make people dance, in a melodic way. Sometimes with a bit of hump tss hump tss sometimes with a kind of brrrr paaaw and maybe a little of dou bidou bidou paw. More seriously: I think my music is a mix between the classic house and acid house because I like 303 so much. I like it when it's melodic, so I always want the chords to be so. I love it when the kick is clear (trying my best) and the snares and hats are groovy so I try to always have it in my tracks.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
In a lot of my tracks I've got Latin American influence flowing in the snares' rhythm because of my origins and the fact that I listened to a lot of Latin American music (salsa y Reggeton de Cuba que so Cubano por parte madre) when I was younger. You can also find a lot of 90s House influence in many of the chords. Most of all I think that the Playstation 1 and its Wipeout game had a great influence on my style. I can quote also the great GTA San Andreas soundtrack. The last oneI really liked was Destiny 2. Yes, I play a lot of games and it's kinda desperate for my girlfriend 😅. I can also talk about my parents cause they always had something to play music in our home. My dad was born in 46 so I listened to a lot of old French singers with age but also jazzmen with trumpets. He also turned the volume up to wake me up on Sunday morning when I was too sleepy or in a hangover and it was classical music most of the time so it was kinda difficult with classical music. Better now. Today I get a lot of inspiration from house/techno/ EDM artists such as Ross Couch and his Jazz session, Late 8, Nto, Joachim Pastor, Avourr, Boris Brejcha, Daft Punk, Mr Oizo, Eric Prydz and others. I also like to check Djs set from Chris Luno on YT. I think I've always wanted to create some music. I started playing the piano at 6. I went to a music school till I was3 ,but I begged to stop because I couldn't stand the professor. It's kinda pathetic but I ran out an entire day to avoid this "torture" wow that's so thug. Anyway, then I started home piano classes and then stopped when I started studying. I think I discovered audiotool at that time 12 years ago but like I said I really started making music here in 2019. And it's been a pleasure and I hope to continue for a long time 'cause it's kind of fantastic. Also, I recently started learning to play the guitar. Thank you so much AT.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
For the little I know of AT I must say the Matrix because you can create a very wide scope of rhythm thanks to it. You all know that an arpeggio can be the start and end of any track, if you want melody in it, of course. And if you don't like arpeggio, you can just play the chords! Isn't that wonderful? Do you have any one note and no chords in mind? No problem: the matrix will please you, but don't forget to plug it on a synthetic so it'll work. The 303 is also kind of magic to make some acid bass lines : module the fq and the resonance, put some accent on notes and slides on others and your techno track is almost finished! Only drag it on the board while playing your track! You may like it... or not 😉.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
Thanks to Mr. Overdrive music (for the French people) and more recently infyuthsion and others tutorials, and also with collabs, I'll say the compresseur : to make your track bounce and pop, connect the compressor with your bass or other Low fq and put your kick on sidechain. Then module the ratio, the threshold, attack and release. You'll find that your bass is not disturbing anymore combined with your kick. And the little red light won't shine! Cause brrrr that's a mean thing when your red light starts to flash…
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I've never had a writer block because I’ve never created music under pressure. Maybe if I was in the music business I'd have some stress to finish a track or an album on time. When I feel like creating music I do, and if I don't I do other stuff like learning how to mix or playing the guitar or playing football (Allez Paris). I would say that you shouldn't put pressure on yourself when you create music. Easy to say. But some advice: when I have a melody in my mind I record myself singing (don't know if you'll call it singing but never mind). What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon? * To discover other artists I must say the charts help a lot, but also surfing on the deepest part of audiotool you can even find artists that haven't been active for a long time. Also the remix button is a nice way to discover how an artist made a track and understand the process of making music and also understand how music styles are made, from the bpm to the rhythm codes. And also all the tutorial parts in AT and St. Infyuthsion the great what? who has done amazing work on his YT channel.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
Man... what can I say... I'm so grateful and really admire the work you are doing, guys. That's why I want everybody to support Audiotool on Patreon. Do so and you'll have the little blue star on your pfp! It's so cool! The collab thing is also a great idea:you can chat with your colleague making music and discuss live what to do to your track! I have never tried the vocal or video chat but I think it's great too! I mean even I could make collabs with greatest artists on AT or see how they managed to make legendary tracks on AT. So for me it's such a shame that AT isn't the number one DAW! It really has to be more popular to increase the community. It must be viral on social media! Make a publicitary spot on TV for God sake! 😂 Really I wish the greatest for this platform and its creators, editors and artists. Pleaaaase keep it up!
Your message to the community:
I love you all! Really I do! And we all must keep in mind that Audiotool is a sacred place that we must keep far from unconstructive words. Always try to help each other to improve. PEACE

Track #1:
Shreddin' by Goon
Goon is one of the most talented artists I have found in Audiotool. He has everything : great grooves, stunning basslines, some craziness, a lot of creativity and also the coolest covers . I remember discovering this track and being bowled over by it. Literally. Hope you enjoy it too!

Track #2:
Q8 by Kepz
There are some artists you want to sound like. Kepz is one of them. This Q8 track has inspired me so much that I had to add it here. This guy has such an underground touch that I love. Try it. You won't be disappointed!

Track #3:
MIDNIGHT WONDERS by Tim Derry
Man this energy... For me, Tim Derry has the most impressive skills on AT. This track is the proof. Listen to it and you'll be smiling, crying and headbanging at the same time. So many emotions and so much power in the mix. And the acoustic piano samples... Wow! Shut up and take my money! As they say

Track #4:
pack and get dressed by Snadbrugen
What can I say about Sandburgen... This guy never stops! Always has a top track up his sleeve. Multifunctional music robot, Anonymous hero of Audiotool. I think he is my spiritual master and - obviously - musical master. I picked this track because it sums up everything I like in his music : underground shape but with a melody driving you to another level and the drums making you say yes. Delicate and progressive. I have made two collabs with him and it was crazy for me... If you have a chance to do so, do not hesitate one second! Mister Sand man special Danke to you!

Track #5:
Psychadelic jungle by Melancolist
Last but not least : Melancolist... When I discovered him on AT, it was love at first sight. I fell in love with his synths : powerful and delicate at the same time, with so much colors in it. He really made me think about Nt'O and Joachim Pastor. I also made few collabs with him and was always impressed by his creativity. Overall on the chords he has a sense of musicality. I think this track was the first I heard from him. But all of them are gorgeous. We miss you Melancolist, get back soon!

Track #6:
You need to listen toOten et fadzo by Drimeur on Audiotool When you create something, in my case an AT track, I think your creation does not belongs to you anymore. It belongs to the audience. And sometimes you do not really get the attention you wanted when you created something. You wanted that drop to be the best in the world but the comments say that the intro is incredible, ibke, for example. And that is also what I like in music. We all speak the same language but still have different points of view. So this track is not my most popular track, but for me it’s my best and has everything I like doing in it : house style chords, headbanging kick, snares and hat dancing, 303 running progressive melody and a bit of synthwave. Hope you'll enjoy that!
Extra message: For those who have read this far : CHEERS. Also I hope you understood my poor English.

Whether Deep House or Techno, Jay's tracks always bring an authentic vibe to get the crowd moving. And his downtempo stuff? Pure atmospheric bliss that proves he's got skills for days. Keep an eye on this one - big things are coming.
Interview:
About JayFK
Hello Audiotool community! I'm Jens and I live in a small town near Hannover in Germany. I am now 48 years old, married and father of two fantastic boys. I've been on Audiotool for almost exactly a year now. The question of my favorite style is difficult, I would rather say there is no style I don't like. I like rock as well as electronic music, no matter if it is techno, hip hop, ambient or whatever. Oh and if the question about pizza is meant seriously: Salami with anchovies and lots, really lots of cheese!
Describe the style of music you produce
As with my taste in music, I'm not tied to one genre when it comes to producing. The genre in which I travel the most is trance. Detached from the genre, my tracks usually have a dark, melancholic touch. No idea why…
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
Everything I know about music today I have acquired myself over the years. I have no musical training or anything like that. There are no musically gifted people in my family either. But I've always loved listening to music. I'm a big fan of The Doors, The Ramones and Placebo (no other band can make melancholic songs that put you in a good mood like that). I also listened to a lot of RAP in the 80s and 90s. In the 90s Steve Mason had his own radio show on BBC Germany. That was the beginning of my passion for techno and trance. My brother came one day with a used 2-channel mixer and we started recording our own mixtapes. A little later the first turntables were at my house and we tried to emulate our idols of that time. These were, for example, Marc Spoon, Carl Cox, Kai Tracid, Adam Beyer and Sven Väth. This is how my “music career” as a DJ began. My highlights here were sets on a truck at the Reincarnation Parade in Hanover and once I was allowed to DJ directly after Kai Tracid on an open air rave. But I was never able to make any real money with it (which I never intended). At the time, one of my DJ colleagues was already producing his own tracks with an old Atari ST. Since that was too expensive for me at the time, I looked for software solutions to be able to produce myself. First I worked with Steinberg's ReBirth, a software variant of the Roland 303, 808 & 909. Then Propellerhead's Reason came out and I stayed there for the next 20 years until I discovered Audiotool…
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
I'm not sure if the Pulv or the Quasar is my #1 choice, but they're definitely the two devices that appear in 99% of my tracks. I love the sound of the Pulv, which can produce almost any sound imaginable. With the Quasar, I love the adjustment options and the infinite width that it can give to a sound. The two devices are exceptionally good, especially in direct interaction. When the Pulv plays a pad and then you turn up the CutOff just a little bit... Wooaaahh!
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
I don't know if these are really tricks, but there are some things that I use from time to time. For the Pulv, I like to use the noise volume control. Turned up at the right time, a baseline sounds like distorted drums and can prepare for a drop or the start of a new instrument. I used this effect, for example, in my track (Vertigo) Vertigo I often use another trick when I don't know what to do with a track or I'm missing that certain something. Then I take a pattern from one instrument and copy it to the note- track of a completely different instrument. For example the pattern of the lead melody to the baseline. Or, which can also be very cool, put the drum patterns on the baseline device. This often results in unexpected sounds.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Sometimes I really have no idea at all. In this case, you shouldn't be afraid to discard a track you've started completely. What can help is to break your normal routine. If you usually start with a baseline and build your track around it, then just start with a few piano chords or something else. It doesn't help me to decide: "Today I'll produce a chillout track." In the end, a completely different genre usually comes out than I planned at the beginning. So the best thing is to just let things go…
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
In my first days on Audiotool, a suggestion from Snadbrugen was a huge help. He suggested that I should start by using the presets of the devices to understand how they work. That really helped a lot. Just as helpful is the remix function, which allows you to analyze tracks and see what others are doing differently. But the most important point here is clearly the community. You get really important tips and assistance, often even without asking. At this point my special thanks go to kurp and Soph .
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I think Audiotool is absolutely fantastic. You have to keep in mind that this is a free DAW. Audiotool is just incredibly professional for that. What I love most is the endless possibilities of interconnecting devices. There really are no limits. "Have you ever connected a quasar behind a quasar?" - "No problem, just try it!" If I could wish for anything, it would be a new synth or a sampler with a filter and the ability to edit the pitch and length of the sample using the keyboard in the pattern track.

Be nice to each other! [Editor's Note: I second that]

I first recognized Kurp with his track "drone ship". It was a great pleasure to remix it. I learned so much about the quasar and the waveshaper by analyzing his track! But for the Album I've chosen "Unbekannt". This track is what we call in Germany "Brett", meaning a track that blows you completely away. Wait until 5:10 and you will know what I mean.

Now to the contrast program. The entry for the ATD 2022 from is just awesome! If you listen to the complete track it feels like three or four different tracks. 3:41 is so great!!! Considering that I used to listen to so much Rap and Hip Hop in the past I just had to pick this track.

Track #6:
ScienceFiction [ATD22] by JayFK
Now to my part of the album. I had to choose between two tracks. But because my favorite track is a remix I chose this one. The track is not so melodic as my other trance tracks but I still love the power of the track and not least it is my top track so far with more than 350 plays. Btw in this track also used the trick with the noise volume of the Pulv.

Audiotool Awards 2022 Winners

Dear friends,
We are happy to present the winners of the Audiotool Awards 2022 - The User organized, yearly community poll.
Connect >> News >> Audiotool Awards 2022
We would like to thank the organizers of this great event - not to forget the winners, nominees, and all other members of this exceptional community.
Let's go
Best new artist:
In 2022, many talented artists began their journey on Audiotool. New genres were created, and others were explored in fresh and exciting ways! There were so many amazing newcomers to chose from, making it very difficult for us. We ended up with a tie between two: atelier and solitude, Somber has a way with music... emotion is expertly captured and presented; his sounds tell a brilliant story. The track i'm going to miss you. Is a perfect example of such. We look forwards to seeing what the future holds for his body of work. Solitude exhibits remarkable and meticulous sample manipulation throughout his songs. His percussion is top notch, and the timbre of every sound is never out of place. We cannot wait to see what tracks he will share with us in the future!
Most improved:
The growth of AT artists in 2022 was truly impressive! So many brought their music to new levels... and it was quite difficult to choose a winner. Once again we had a tie: kurp and andy both showed us all the meaning of practice makes perfect. Andy's shift towards vocal focused compositions was amazing to witness. In just the past year alone, his vocal range, mixing and lyricism reached new heights. His live recordings of guitar and piano showed us how wide his range of talents spans, and we are excited to see what he will bring to the table in the future. Kurp's intense and beautiful tracks have long been on everyone's radar, but in 2022 he truly upped the ante. Some call him the king of the pulv, and for good reason. His sound design is incredible, and he has truly mastered the art of using minimal devices to achieve the maximum quality.
Best cover art:
A great composition needs a great piece of artwork to accompany it. Although many artists have their own unique styles, one stands out among the rest: Goon showed us how it's done; his artwork tells a story in that of itself, capturing our imagination in a different way each time. The level of quality leaves nothing to be desired, except one thing: the next Goon track!
Most interesting use of an AT device:
There were so many cool and interesting uses of AT devices this year. From gnome sounds being made from synths, and entire songs made from a drum machine, we had a hard time choosing a winner. However, one artist consistently has raised the bar higher and higher. Throughout the past years, rai. has continued to create remarkable tracks from a single device. Take 3.0.3 for example. He always seems to have a few more tricks up his sleeve, and we eagerly await his next entry to the series!

Honorable mentions:
Most helpful:
One of the most important things for musicians within our community is specific and constructive critique. It takes a good ear for mixing, knowledge of sound design, and a way with words to give such a thing. Luckily Client is around! If you need an unbiased and qualified opinion, he is always happy to help. His own numerous delves into different genres has given him a special ear for things to tweak and change. Thank you Client for your help throughout the past year, and we hope others are inspired to do the same going forwards.
Honorable mention:
Artist of the year:
We have once again asked you guys to vote on who you thought embodied the spirit of creation and artistry this year, and the community has spoken! Jetdarc has done something never before seen on the site: he has created more than four hours of original video game music! Astral Aurora - The Complete Soundtrack The pure dedication displayed by him throughout the past couple years to the project is absolutely mind blowing. One thing is for sure: Jetdarc has shown us what it means to be a community leader, and is an inspiration to us all.
Honorable mentions:
Track of the year:
For some, artist block is seen as negative, resulting in minimal output and a feeling of lacking creativity. However, retro showed us that this can actually lead to a phenomenal track... or maybe three! artblock session 01 Just completely floored us within the community. Fun chords, bouncy percussion, and funky melodies all contributed to this work of art. Thank you for the awesome track, Retro!

Collaboration of the year:
Collaboration is one of the most important parts of the Audiotool Community. Artists of all genres can come together to mix and match, resulting in some great results. The community almost unanimously voted for something amidst , and for good reason. The depth of sound design displayed here will be talked about for years to come. The beautiful soundscape was a result of Soph , Client and sea foam and the wind coming together. Everything just works here. Thank you for the amazing collab guys!

Featured Artist Christmas Special: Xavi

Just in time for Christmas, we're bringing Xavi back, who left Audiotool a few years ago to try his luck in the music business. We want to get to the bottom of this: how has he been doing in the meantime? What has worked and what hasn't? What could he take with him from Audiotool, and what does he maybe even miss? We thank you - xavrockbeats - for telling the new generation of Audiotoolers about your experience. And we wish you continued success on your way to becoming a star DJ and producer, which you undoubtedly deserve.
Interview with Xavi
What has happened since you moved from Audiotool into the big wide world?
A lot of things! I have had the pleasure and luxury of being able to tour with Seven Lions, play multiple shows and more than a couple of festivals, as well as dropping an album and EP (don't worry, more of that coming soon). I've been really thankful for all the amazing opportunities and wonderful people I've met along the way, and it's been really surreal to go from trying to recreate some of my musical heroes's styles on AT to interacting with them more than a couple of times (Seriously, one of my albums on here is a complete rip-off of Porter Robinson's Worlds and then a few weeks ago he DMed me for an unreleased Madeon remix I did-about a week after Madeon DMed me for the same remix, who I also tried to recreate more than a few times on AT as well!)
Describe the style of music you produce and how it developed
I think, at least where I've been at lately, I've been trying to make this super high energy chordy bass music. I don't really understand how to label it better (Angry Future Bass Revival??) but I've been really, really happy with it. I usually develop it through an insane amount of resampling and post production-some of my songs that I've been working on actually resample other unreleased songs of my own!
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
Although nobody in my family is a musician themselves, music has been a large part of my life for a long time. I remember when I was very young, my dad would play stuff like Coldplay and Radiohead in the car, and a lot of those kinds of artists have stuck with me and been a large part of my music taste. I had become interested in making music some time before finding this site, but I hadn’t really had a consistent way of making music before stumbling upon Audiotool. Once I did though, I really stuck with it. Since then, I’ve put a lot of effort into broadening my music taste as much as I can, and incorporating what I find in others’ music into my own.
What does your daily production routine look like now? What software or hardware do you use?
I usually mainly produce in quick bouts, where I've been struck by inspiration. I can go from not producing for 5-6 days to having 1-2 songs figured out in a day or two! Now, my production mainly consists of using Ableton, along with some of my favorite VSTs like Digitalis, Pigments, and Serum.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
Very rarely are there any specific tricks that I use within my tracks. For the most part, sound design and mixing is incredibly minimalistic for me. Hell, I often use default synths without any effects whatsoever and I can usually get the sound I want out of it, which I guess is sort of a trick in and of itself.
Which Audiotool device would you like to be able to add to your current setup?
I miss Harmonics so, so, so much. I would honestly pay quite a bit to have that one back as a VST! Honestly, though, the more I think about it, I miss a fair amount of the tools of AT. I learned a lot of production techniques through them.
What aspect of Audiotool generally would you like to take with you into other contexts? I.e. the community feedback, collab ability…
The community. 110% the community. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so busy as to where I could jump back on more. Honestly, one of the things that a lot of the overarching music community doesn't really have is a sense of, well, community, and I miss being close friends with such likeminded people.
Where have you published your music so far?
I've had the luck of putting my music out by myself, with Proximity, Musical Freedom, Ophelia and now Lost In Dreams!
Where have you performed and played live?
If you mean my entire career, I've played a TON of times in Indiana during college, with some friends in a collective (shout out Soundasleep!!). Then, I was able to play a small bar in St. Louis with some friends through a event called Vaporspace and eventually, LA with Brownies and Lemonade. After that, when things really started picking up, I was able to play San Francisco (Hypernight was so fun!!), Florida, LA again for Nocturnal Wonderland, Detroit, Chicago (My FAVORITE show, the crowd was GREAT and my parents got to see me play live!) , Washington D.C., Chicago again for North Coast Festival, and most recently, a headliner show in Cincinnati.
How did you make your first contacts with labels?
My first real contact was with Ophelia! They reached out to me for a single for a compilation album and through talks, we were able to get even more established. Really thankful for all they've done for me.
What moment would you call your breakthrough and how did you feel about it at the time?
You know, for as much as I've done, I still feel like I'm working for that moment. I'll let you all know when it comes!
What was it like to play in front of a big audience for the first time?
Nerve Wracking!!! Honestly it was hard for me to look up, I was just afraid I would clear the room I guess. But once I did it, it was much easier the second time, and honestly, it was so, so cool once you get used to it.
Is there anything special from your time at Audiotool that stays with you in your present work?
Only just about everything ever!! Audiotool was where I cut my teeth on so, so many production techniques. Stereo processing, EQing, compression, mixing, sidechaining, I learned it all through here.
Do you still communicate with your network on Audiotool and if yes, how?
I try to, but it's gotten more difficult for me with being busy. I still like to pop on now and again when I can, feel free to say hi when you see me!
Do you have any Audiotool tracks that have had a lasting influence on you?
Everything Luxior and Ford. ever did has sat with me for so long. Sincerely good producers, no matter what they use!!!
What would you recommend to the younger generation of Audiotoolers?
Keep working!!!! You're going to have harder days, but those will pass. Also, don't fall into sunken cost fallacy!!!! I know that sounds weird, but if you focus too hard and spend too much time on one aspect of a track, you can sometimes be less willing to delete it if you think you might need to. One of the most freeing things you can do is take a synth or something you've been working on for an insane amount of time and say 'nah-this isn't working' and delete it. Honestly feels good!!

Weird track of mine from this era to pick, I know, as it's not the most popular or even forward thinking. But, full honesty, this song I always felt is the best I ever did on here. Still proud of that to this day!

Interview:
About Cherry aka etterath
Hiya! I'm Cherry and I'll be 17 years old by the time this interview is out! I was born in Nashville, but I've lived in central Florida for the past 8 years. I'm also very excited to be approaching my 6 year milestone on Audiotool in just a few months :). As for pizza? I am incredibly indiscriminate with food so most pizza is very good and tasty to me.
Describe the style of music you produce
I find it hard to pinpoint exactly what I do, as my tracks can vary dramatically between each other. To put it vaguely, I would say most of my music is experimental, but melodic, and has an emotive intent.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
My parents are both really big music enthusiasts, especially my dad, but I think it took until I discovered Audiotool to develop the same level of interest. I found Audiotool after seeing an ad for deadmau5's Masterclass. I thought it looked cool, so I checked it out online. It was there that I discovered the class itself costs a lot of money, and so do digital audio workstations. Afterward, I looked up something like "make music online," and after Soundtrap and Soundnation proved to be hot garbage, I came across Audiotool and fell in love.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
It's definitely between Quasar and Pulsar. They both do an amazing job at making almost anything immediately sound better, and they've just become essential effects in every track I make now. For Pulsar, I particularly enjoy turning all the Sync knobs down and then messing with the Millis knobs. It makes the stereo image of sounds feel really good and creates an interesting effect when combined with some LFO Depth. Also: it's needless to say, but the detail you can incorporate into your reverb with Quasar is fantastic. The vibrato and EQing parameters have been especially useful to me.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
I have a few particular things I do a lot.
1) Very intense compression technique: Threshold - down, ratio - all the way up, makeup - turn up as desired, attack & release - all the way down, and then turn the sensing to peak. This setup absolutely destroys anything you put through it in a tremendous manner. A less intense version of this (mainly just not having the release at 0ms) can actually be useful for drums, live instruments, and vocals.
2) Massive sub I overuse: Pulv - no adjustments needed, two stereo enhancers - 100% stereo and tone all the way down, exciter - power & wet all the way up and tone all the way down, then compress as desired. I've loved this setup ever since the first time I used it. It even makes those super low notes, which would normally not pop out very much, sound huge. Turning the noise oscillator on can be a good addition as well.
3) Grooves: I've explored what's possible with grooves a LOT on my tracks psychosis and i'm that someone unnamed . If you want to make some crazy sounds, just put a groove on some samples. Usually I'll click 'Create New Groove' and drag the impact slider all the way to the right, then make another and drag it to the left. After that I'll just move samples between them and see what noises I can get. Another thing that can add to this is speeding up and slowing down the samples dramatically. While this can generate some fun results, there's two issues I've run into before while doing that. 1) after publishing it may either render incorrectly or not render at all; and 2) sometimes all you'll hear is a loud click and then a constant ringing sound. Once this happens you need to restart the studio to get it to stop.
I hope these can be useful!
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I haven't experienced an artist's block as severe as some, but I've definitely gone through it. Something that's worked well for me is making something on my alt account pigpen . There's something quite freeing about it; you don't have to meet any expectations your followers might have, and you can separate yourself from the artist you normally are. It doesn't always work, however. There's been times where I've just had to wait for that spark to come back. There's really no tried and true method to get out of a block, unfortunately.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
The AT discord for sure. I hadn't really made any social connections through Audiotool before I joined, but since then I've made some of my best friends through it. Now I've been a part of several collabs, made new musical discoveries, and gone through a lot of personal and creative growth. Chart Party and other server events are really fun, and I recommend people participate :). The half-hour producer challenge is especially fun and a great test for yourself.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
Audiotool has undoubtedly changed my life. With it I discovered my love of music, a passion that will certainly define me for as long as I live. The integrated community of AT makes it a very unique DAW, as no others have what's essentially a social media platform within it as well; at least not one that's as passionate as this. I will never harbor contempt for issues that come along with the site, as I have to give credit where credit is due; Audiotool is a fantastic start for anyone getting into music, whether just as a hobby or as a career. It's an amazing free DAW with a fervid community surrounding it, and while I know I'm likely alone on this, I could care less if there was never an update again. I'm just happy Audiotool is around. Thank you Audiotool Team <3

Soon I'll Be (roses) by withdecay
There was no way I could’ve excluded withdecay from my track selection. It’s hard for me to pick out a favorite from their discog, but I’ve always found this track extremely alluring. It’s beautiful, haunting, and the vocals are just So Good. Mirroring what they said in their feature, Sid you are a big inspiration and an amazing friend to me. Keep making great stuff :)

Track #2:
atlas by nico
Speaking of great people I’ve met through AT, Nico! His contributions in the past couple of years to experimental music on AT have been incredible. I remember getting to hear a sneak peek at this track before it was out, and I was astonished. I had been trying to finish an entry for the comp at the same time (didn’t work out), and never would I have imagined that someone would make such a creative and powerful piece for it. This track is amazing. Love you Nico <3

Track #3:
nostalgia by abstract
Abstract/Frij was probably the first artist that truly inspired me on Audiotool, with this track being one of the first of his I heard. Listening to this is still such a nostalgia trip (pun-intended), and reminds me of when I was still just a fledgling artist being totally mystified by this great track. Shoutout to the master of maximizing minimalism. Gorgeous song.

Track #4:
apogee by opaqity
Unbelievably good. I could go on forever about why I feel opaqity/mistwin may be one of the best artists period. His tracks have such novel and delicate beauty with impressive attention to detail, and his production and composition expertise are unmatched by most. This track in particular has almost all of the elements that make his music great, and I think the whole apogee EP is some of AT’s best music. This came out the same year I joined AT, and yet it still hasn’t stopped amazing me after almost 6 years. I will never stop praising opaqity.

Track #5:
stardust by looks
What is there to say that hasn’t already been said about lux and this track? Masterfully produced, powerful, stunning. I almost chose renegade over this, but I find this track much more emotionally striking and important to me. Not exactly a unique pov, but I believe lux is indeed one of this site’s best creators. Whether he’s making music or not, he’ll always be special in this community and I hope he’s doing well.
[[EMBED:https://www.audiotool.com/track/stardust-w2wgaaxx/]]
Track #6:
trauma (we made it) by etterath
I like this track of mine for a lot of the same reasons I like some other tracks of mine, and because of that it was quite difficult for me to find how it stood above my other considerations. The tiebreaker ended up having to be the song’s emotional importance. For me, the majority of my tracks will forever be more special to me than anybody else, as I know what’s underneath the curtain. I know the story, I know what I put into it, and I know what was going on at the time. I feel like this was my most raw expression of emotion, and it was an absolutely necessary track for me to vent out how I was feeling. Btw, the track I’d like to have put here is still in development ;).

Featured Artist: ApoC

ApoC is a clear example of how, besides talent, discipline and hard work are also part of growing up as an artist. If we remember his first steps on Audiotool, we can see how far he has come in the years. He has grown both as a musician and a person on Audiotool. And we are pleased to have been able to accompany this process.
Stay tuned, ApoC.
Interview:
About ApoC
I'm from the U.S., I've been using Audiotool since 2016. I love watching WWE, my favorite wrestlers are John Cena and Randy Orton. My favorite styles of music are Progressive House, Trance and Future House. But to be more specific, I like to branch out to people who make such amazing melodies and lush chords on their tracks.
Describe the style of music you produce
I produce a wide range of music genres including Progressive House, Trap, and Ambient.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
My musical background is inspired by a lot of people in the music industry who I look up to. Even ones that I do not listen to on a day-to-day basis. I'd say my biggest inspirations are Hardwell, Martin Garrix and Tiesto because they've been making banger tracks for music festivals and also for their fans to enjoy. I started making music when I actually started listening to Hip Hop music. When I would hear people like Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy and Eminem on the radio. On Audiotool however, I came across the website when I searched for "free online daw" and I was quite surprised to stumble upon this website. I never wanted to leave, I always thought my chances of actually collabing with people were very big because I honestly find everyone's particular sound so unique and amazing.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
My favorite Audiotool device is the Quasar reverb because the sound by itself is massive, and makes you really relate to your own emotions on a personal level.
What is your favourite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
My favorite technique is to layer my sounds together. So I like to include the Pulv, Heisenberg and Space in almost all of my tracks. And packing them with a bunch of effects to make the sounds stand out. It's amazing how very little time it can take me to make a chord structure sound really emotional.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I've had writer's block quite a lot. But whenever I do, I like to browse through the tracks section of audiotool in which I select the most recent and I listen to those. I've come across some really cool songs to be honest doing it that way rather than just typing it all out with the search function on the website.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
The amount of people critiquing songs and being brutally honest. Instead of people calling your particular song garbage, when it can be very special to you in all ways , positively or negatively. You can do so much on Audiotool, and I believe you can take it to the next level if you put your best efforts into making something you enjoy and love.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I like the vast amount of songs that pop up in my feed, or whenever people mention (@) me. I think everyone deserves a chance to shine. And even the smartest people are meant to fail. But failure is the only start to success.
Your message to the community:
Remain positive no matter what. Don't bring people down, always treat them with respect. If you don't, then you should ignore them and move past it.

Featured Artist: Call Me Lito

Call Me Lito is a hit machine. If you were to download all his music and put it in a playlist, you'd have a set that would freak out a festival crowd. Just his last tracks are all ready for release. Whether it's a classic EDM track, a Trance anthem or a chill deep house banger, you can tell that someone knows what he is doing. If you are a real fan of Electronic Dance Music in its original meaning and have a thing for pompous, often oriental-inspired music, I recommend you to visit his tracklist.
Interview:
About Joseph aka Lito
I was born in London, England but raised in Florida for most of my life. I've been with audiotool about 6 years ago almost 7 now. My favorite style of music would be Trance music because the beats just always get me in a groove and I like to vibe along. Lately, I have been enjoying Progressive House music for the immaculate atmosphere and vibes. Believe it or not, before I got into music, I was a visual artist and I did everything from drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, printmaking, etc. I studied visual arts up through high school before I found a love for music.
Describe the style of music you produce
I would describe my music as atmospheric. I love setting the tone and emotion to try and the my listeners to connect to the sound, the groove, and a part of me. I use music as an expression of who I am and I really enjoy hearing people's thoughts match the intention of my sounds.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I don't have a musical background and no one in my family really had a knack for anything of the arts. I'm the first in my family to have a passion for visual arts and now, music. It started with me listening to electronic music for the first time and thinking to myself about how cool and unique all the sounds were and also thought I could try making something like that myself because the music inspired me that much. I was halfway through high school at the time and I was looking for a software that would allow me to explore opportunities with music production and I happened to come across audiotool. It looked clean, professional, and it was free.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
I really enjoy using a majority of audiotool's devices but if I had to pick one I would pick the Quantum. It's easy to use and a strong mastering tool to isolate different bandwidths as well as a compressor. I also like how I switch between pre/post see frequency spectrum change. I use it strongly with synths I want to have a more pronounced tone/sound with the example being plucks and leads.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
My favorite technique would be using 2 centroids when setting up a project. Having one dedicated to the "drum kit" and the other dedicated to the synths and other sounds. I would always side-chain my synths so the drums would come through more impactfully and have a more clear tone. Another little tip for anyone is to set all your channels on the centroid at -5dB. Having each channel set to -5dB will give you headroom you will definitely want to have later on, especially in larger projects because you can always turn the volume up when needed later on.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I have had writer's block before and it does suck. The longest I've had writer's block was for a year and I just accepted it and let it be until I found the inspiration to produce more music. I kept active in the community and listened to people's tracks, offering feedback and thoughts. I would recommend if anyone finds themselves stuck and feeling uninspired, it's okay to slow down, take a step back, and wait a while until you're ready to get back into action. Staying active in the community and offering feedback or even a hello is a great way to pass the time as it also builds and strengthens bonds and relationships. It's also a great way to network and have people more inclined to listen to your work.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
More than anything, the community has helped me get to where I am today. I am thankful for all the feedback and support I receive on my work. More accurately, I would say the objective criticism and listening to different styles and sounds from other people's work has helped me greatly.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I like how audiotool is not only the best free DAW in your browser but it's also a great all around platform. You have charts, monthly and yearly competitions, and you can engage and speak with other artists too. I personally find the live collaboration feature revolutionary because I don't know of any other DAW that can do that. For audiotool, I would suggest maybe a new pedal effect or master tool. Maybe hosting classes on how to use audiotool would be neat for those wanting to master the DAW.
Your message to the community:
"It is impossible to erase the mistakes of the past, but you can recognize them and learn from them. You can decide to change the effect they have on the way you think and act. Life either rides you, or you ride it. Decide today to learn from your past, and not let your past ride you." - Napoleon Hill
Never give up please. If you see yourself falling, fall forward because at least that's still progress. Don't give up on your passions and dreams because I see too many giving up before they even put one foot forward. It's okay to ask for help sometimes too because no one is perfect. I believe in you all.

Andy is, without exaggeration, one of the great vocalists of Audiotool. He is not afraid to use his Pop Music-oriented timbre for more lo-fi, experimental sound structures. The tension that this mixture of easy listening and complexity creates sets his work apart from the uniformity of the contemporary Pop landscape and makes him unique on Audiotool. We sincerely hope he will get over his "creative break" soon because he still owes us a vocal recording with the prize won in the Summer Song Contest - an award he fully deserved. Come on, Andy!
Interview:
About Andy aka andy
Howdy I'm Andy, 23, and have been on AT since 2012. I'm from Eastern Pennsylvania, USA (Go Eagles) and went to school at University of Pittsburgh. The last few years I've traveled all around the country working and until this year I finally stayed in one spot and I was able to put more time into music. My favorite style of music has changed drastically over the years but for now I'm in love with pop music. Guys like Frank Ocean, Jai Paul, Phoebe Bridgers and even Justin Bieber taught me a lot about writing music/lyrics, and I owe the improvement of my music abilities to them. Also, the best pizza is obviously bruschetta.
Describe the style of music you produce
I started with House on my prior accounts, but then I learned about the beauties of Ambient music(Thank you Brian Eno!). For years I spent time making ambient and lofi, until I heard Jai Paul's music. If you haven't heard his album I seriously recommend checking it out! From there I got into more pop music, and eventually starting doing vocals. Since my baptism by fire with vocal production, I feel way more comfortable with adding them into any genre.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
Growing up, my family had a huge 1920s Steinway piano in our family room, which was given to us by my great uncle who actually worked for Steinway. As a kid, I always wanted to be able to really play it but unfortunately that is still a work a progress. However the piano taught me some simple music theory such as learning all the major/minor scales. With Audiotool, I wanted to be like deadmau5 in middle school, and I found Audiotool when searching for free DAWs. After all these years I still stick with Audiotool because I love the community, and the ease of use.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
There's way too many options for the best device! The quasar and pulsar delay are super powerful and currently the most used device in any of my tracks. I also couldn't leave out the Pulv, as it is still my favorite synth in the studio. Probe also deserves a shoutout, as it is seriously some awesome software, and the reverb effects are incredible.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
Reverb and Delay Aux sends are your friend. Being able to control the effects via the centroid's sends always sounds really great. A little subtle reverb on a channel can make a huge difference.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I'm actually in one right now! For the last few months I felt like I had never-ending ideas and everything came so easy to me. However this month I feel unable to create any good ideas, or add to any of the drafts that fill up in the corners of my mind. The truth is that patience is always key, and never try to force it. If you don't want to walk away from music for a time, then find a different medium. Currently I'm spending my time practicing piano and guitar instead of Audiotool.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
I owe so much to the people of this community. Not until this year did I really dive into making new connections on this site, and you guys are some of the coolest people ever. Outside of the internet, I never knew that many people into music production, so its amazing being able to talk to like minded people. Shoutout Naswalt, who helped me understand sound synthesis with the Pulv, and was one of the first people who showed me the possibility of vocals in Audiotool. Shoutout Fluent and Sim as they expanded my horizons with different genres, especially in Bootyclub :).
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I love the dev team and everyone involved with the building. maintaining, and growth of this site. You make this all possible, and bring so much light into people's lives with this small music app. The Audiotool team may get hate sometimes but I hope you guys realize we all love you!
Your message to the community:
I hope everyone keeps continuing to work on your craft and keeps improving. I try my best to stay up to date with everything people publish, but post your tracks on my wall, I'll give them all a listen. Feel free to reach out to me at anytime to ask questions or just talk!

Featured Artist: BubbLz

Bubblz's way of merging cool trap beats with heart-warming synth melodies and atmospheres is rare even outside Audiotool. Her tracks are unmistakably hers, but listening through the tracklist never gets boring. Time and again, there is a surprising note or a poignant nuance you hadn't heard before. But what unifies them all are their high-quality value and emotional density that can never leave you cold. This music has the gift of breaking down boundaries. Thanks for the enlightenment.
Interview:
About Zack :
HEY! It's your favorite person ever here. Honestly, I wouldn't have thought I'd be on the audiotool spotlight from making simple loop trap beats. 3 years ago I was introduced to the creative freedom for which is Audiotool. AND IT IS FREE?!? WHAAT?! And browser-based?!?! My style is more of a rebellion towards the criticism I received back when I had no knowledge of production, and implemented many loops into my tracks. I taught myself many tricks by remixing every track I could find, I then started to find my sound. I leaned more to entrancing dark melodic sounds, I loved the way it made me feel. Oh and most importantly, I like pineapple on pizza. I DONT GET IT, ITS A FRIGGIN FOOD CODE PEOPLE, SWEET AND SAVORY!!
Which artist has had the most influence on you (on and/or outside Audiotool)?
Wizard - the way his tracks make me feel is almost as if he went through the same struggles I did. Something about it made me feel comfortable, his tracks actually make me feel something which is why Im heavily inspired by him. If it wasn't for Wizard, I'd have no idea what my sound would be. TakeMeAway on Audiotool - his dark melodies really send shivers down my spine. Was attracted to his sound as soon as I discovered him. Okin on Audiotool - He mastered the simplicity aspect of track, making sound amazing with limited resources.
Who would you like to work /collaborate with on and outside Audiotool, and why?
Wizard most definitely. He's my idol, I respect him highly. Its my dream to just throw sounds together with him and watch how his genius mind works.
Which film/game would you like to produce the score for or contribute a song to?
I've always wanted to create some sort of, "pick up" sound effect. Something about the simplicity of it and how important it is to sound just right amazes me. I think it's extremely overlooked.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Oh most definitely. In a writers block situation, most likely I'm overworking my brain. So I'll just step away for a few hours or a few days, and completely forget it exists. Therefore when I come back, it's like a fresh creative mind, slowly unfolding, compiling ideas as you listen to your work.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
What helped me the most is experimenting. I would just experiment with many Fx and machines, anything I had no idea how to do. Not only did I end up discovering what to do, but also what not to do. Making your mistakes lead your understanding.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I mean, it has to be that it's FRIGGIN FREE?! Back when I had no money I was searching and searching for free softwares. I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for Audiotool. It's such a good starter, and overall I prefer Audiotool over many daws which costs hundreds. I'm very grateful for this site.

Featured Artist: Client

Client is undoubtedly one of the heavy hitters in the Audiotool Bass Music scene. In the beginning, it was sound design experiments, mainly for Heisenberg Bass Sounds and dubstep tracks. But over the years, he has developed into a real, versatile musician who is not afraid of excursions into other, deeper sound worlds and delivers a quality that leaves nothing to be desired. Not without reason was Client one of the favourites in the Featured Artist user votings. We hope to hear a lot more from you, man. Keep it up!
[Editor's note: I love long tracks]
Interview:
About Cory aka Client
Hi all! My real name is Cory. But I prefer to be called by my Alias Client. I'm originally from Sierra Vista, Arizona. But now I live near Dallas, in Texas. I am 19 years old. Sound design is my favorite pastime. I have a few games that I play here and there. But it’s mostly roblox (that’s all my computer can really handle). I only really play one game on Roblox, the game is called Phantom Forces. I’m almost rank/level 200 on the game, and have over 110,000 kills (I dare you to 1v1 me lol). So really, I’m either playing that or making music. I also REALLY enjoy talking to new people and helping people with music production. Last but certainly not least my fav food is Burgers. It doesn’t really matter what kind they are, just as long as they’re big and juicy!!
Describe the style of music you produce
I make Bass music, but am slowly switching over to Cyberpunk, Cinematic, suspense and Sci-Fi Horror. I don’t know how long I’ll be making that stuff, but we’ll see :)
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
About 4 years ago I was introduced to Audiotool by someone called bubblicious (aka BubbLz) on a different music making site called Looplabs. I didn’t actually start making music until about 8 months after I made the account ( Fusion ). I actually don’t really have a musical background, other than playing the trumpet in Band for 2 years. But that was like 6 or 7 years ago. So really I’ve only been making music for 3 years and 4 months.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
Probably either the pink reverb or the- Yeah no, it’s the heisenburger, no questions asked (I’m looking at you, Ditto). I like it because you can create a variety of sounds with it whether it’s bells, growls, pads, etc. By the way, when I say that, I mean without any effects - It’s all in the modulation options that the heisenburger comes with. The only downside to the heisenburger is that the sounds down to their base aren’t the most high quality compared to the pulv (like sawtooths for example).
What is your favourite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
It’d either be using the Pulv input as a phaser for making your sounds sound more meaty, or using the Pulsar delay as a comb filter. It’s hard to choose a favorite technique when all the devices are a huge help in different and unique ways. But between the two, I’d have to go with the Pulsar delay comb filter effect.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
There are really two options to this. Either you go and do something else (preferably not related to music). Or do something in music that you don’t normally do. What I personally do is sound design experimentation, and try to really push my experimentation knowledge with strange combinations of effects and weird resonating (not the good kind of resonating) base sounds and modulation.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
The thing that has probably helped me the most are the people here. Not every DAW has a built in community. That being said, my friend Project Epsilon has probably helped me the most with music. Every question I’ve asked him, he’s answered it. Big props to him.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
What I like the most about it is that it’s free, and that it has in-real-time collaborations. What I would like to see is better sample manipulation. And maybe a new synth haha.
Your message to the community:
I would recommend you guys to publish your experiments, even if you think they are bad (you can get feedback on your experiments). Try going out of your comfort zone, it may not feel like much at the moment, but it’ll help you in the long run. I love you guys, keep experimenting, be friendly and thanks for all the support you’ve given me! <3

Track #1:
Kurea - Irisu by kureas trash bin
First we have Irisu, from Kyurra. I absolutely love this track to death. Though it isn’t completely Audiotool, the emotion and hard work is still there. This has been my #1 fav track ever since I first heard it. It truly tells a story. I would really listen to it if I were you.

Track #2:
Kurea - Oni by kureas trash bin
Track #2 is Kyurra’s track Oni. It’s a bit old in terms of sound design, but still manages to hold up. I chose it because it was the first well designed modern dubstep track at the time it was made. It really deserves some attention imo.

Track #3:
MONIKER by @sndcult
For the third track of my choice I chose MILXN’s track Moniker. Honestly one of the most well mixed and well designed tracks on Audiotool. It really puts most future bass on this site to shame. It shows you that you can do more than just chord stacks for a drop.

Track #4:
Black light by Melancolist
Melancolist is a huge inspiration for some of my Techno attempts. He always has the best ideas for not making the techno genre repetitive sounding. Plus the bass in this is huuuge. I would really recommend checking this out!

Track #5:
The Old World [Remnants OST] by Kyba and Zerod
As for #5 I chose this track by Zerod and Kyba. It’s a Sci-Fi soundtrack, and it’s the reason why I’ve been making that genre a lot recently. Really sick production, I’d check out the entire Album and watch their movie if I were you.

Track #6:
Odyssey [Huge WIP] by Client
For the track of mine I choose Odyssey. I tried to do something that hasn’t really been done before on Audiotool in terms of the length, story telling, and the amount of sound design that I put in. I feel like this track represents very well what I am aiming for in the music industry (Cinematic/Horror/Sci-Fi). It is certainly one of my best produced tracks. P.s. I hope you like long tracks ;)

CLOSED : Contest by the School Of Music Collaboration

Collaborative Music Contest is calling for music that demonstrates the spirit and potential of online music collaboration.
About a year ago, the School Of Music Collaboration initiated a contest where the Audiotool community could demonstrate their talents. Of the 14 nominees, four teams consisted of users of our beloved platform. With Icebox, Siren and dcln in the race, Audiotool also provided the competition's winner. The team around Dr Martin K. Koszolko is now calling for a second round. Do we want to miss out on that? Let's show the world who has the best collaborators.
Here is some information from the organizer:
Theme: Old meets new
- Entries are now open and will close on November 20, 2022.
- Submission form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdVGYINvmEtebLBigClxUne09LazIjZbqQhUMvTfniQU1k3qg/viewform
- Organizer website: https://www.musiccollaboration.online/contest-2022
Contest rules, please read:
All submitted tracks must be created during an online collaboration between at least two musicians and respond to this year's contest theme of "new meets old". Musicians can present it via music or lyrics and are encouraged to interpret it in various creative ways.
Musicians must submit tracks into one of the contest categories: Online Studio Collaboration or Online Live Jamming:
+ Online Studio Collaboration is a process where some or all elements of communication, recording, editing and mixing use online tools. These tools can include dedicated online music collaboration platforms as well as online exchanges of audio or MIDI files. This collaborative process can be either synchronous (real-time) or asynchronous (non-real-time).
+ Online Live Jamming is a process where collaborating musicians play live over the Internet using software that enables online live jamming. This process is synchronous (real-time or near real-time). Musicians can submit recordings of sessions that include live online jamming in this contest category.
Contest organizers do not matchmake artists as this contest is for creative teams formed externally and using remote music collaboration technologies of their choice.
Each musical act/group can enter only one track in each contest category, but they can enter different ones in separate contest categories.
The maximum track length is 5,5 minutes.
It is free to enter the contest, and artists retain all ownership of the music they submit.
All submitted tracks must be original, and no covers are allowed. All musical genres are permitted.
Judges will assess the alignment with the chosen contest category (Online Studio Collaboration or Online Live Jamming) and the response to the contest theme of "new meets old". Other assessment criteria will include the scope of online collaboration and the songwriting and music production qualities.
It is critical to explain the collaborative process in detail and credit all collaborators and their roles in the creative process.
To submit the track, you need to complete the submission form available via the link above and upload the MP3 or AAC file via the form. We reserve the right to only assess the submissions with correct file formats and aligned with one of the contest categories (Online Studio Collaboration or Online Live Jamming).
The accepted file formats are MP3 and AAC at 320kbps.
All submissions must be in by midnight (AEST, Sydney time) on November 20, 2022.
The School of Online Collaboration will announce the winners during a video streamed on YouTube on December 2022 and will contact them by email afterwards.
Editor's Note: This is not an Audiotool contest. If you have questions which could not be answered by reading the rules, please ask the School of Online Collaboration.

If you like obscure to dark experimental sounds, you can't miss withdecay on Audiotool. Hardly anyone manages to create such evolving and meandering soundscapes. They captivate the fascinated listener as if they were the soundtrack to an HR Giger painting.
But that's not the end; his Metal and Alternative inspired pieces deserve mention too. There is as much to discover in each piece as in other people's whole portfolios. He's not an artist for hasty listeners. For withdecay you need time.
Interview:
Sidney aka withdecay
Hello!! I'm 18 years old. I've lived in the same outskirt town of PA my whole life. Around me are old Moravian structures, the constant noise of roadwork, nature here and there, and the occasional army of bicycle kids doing wheelies down the main street. I like to wade through streams in search for cool rocks. I frequently go on walks as the sun's setting and take pictures that are far too dark. I'm an avid fan of black olives on pepperoni/bacon pizza. And I've been on Audiotool for nearly 7 years; I basically grew up on here!
Describe the style of music you produce
I'm super inspired by gritty and grimy textures, especially juxtaposed against equally sweet and soft sounds. Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, and Loathe are some of the biggest inspirations to me because of their ability to nail that heavy/soft contrast. I'd like to imagine I make an amateurish version of all those artists mixed together into some kind of audio soup, with some Daughters and Xiu Xiu sprinkled in as a garnish.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
My dad lived for music all of my childhood. In the house he'd be blasting music on the stereo or rehearsing with bands in the basement. Any car ride meant the speakers were rattling with the windows open. Lots of Slipknot, Korn, and Fear Factory. I was gifted a kiddy drumset when I was 5 and from there I became obsessed with music and rhythm! He had tons of demos for DAWs on our family computer, and through trial and error I'd slap things together as a pastime (and not know how to save them.) Together we searched for free DAWs I could use on my own terms, and we eventually discovered Audiotool. I was about 11, just starting middle school. I was insufferable. my music was bad for a while too. I went from making metal exclusively out of drum and guitar oneshots, to making clumsy '8-bit' metal with a simple Machineste and Heisenberg setup, to making future bass, to making lofi, etc. I started teaching myself guitar towards the end of 8th grade and that's when I really started refining my style!
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
In terms of synths, definitely the Heisenberg. The phase modulation controls alone let you pretty effortlessly make some really interesting sounds which I appreciate!! In terms of effects, I'd say Quasar. The ability to add reverb with infinite decay is useful for creating long stretching atmospheres with less action going on in the timeline. The vibrato controls are what sell Quasar for me though. When used subtly it can remove the fake robotic stretchy sound that comes with a stock reverb, and when exaggerated it can be utilized for creating lush and dreamy pads.
What is your favorite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
Not really exclusive to Audiotool, but heavy parallel compression does wonders for a drum mix. It adds lots of snap to transients and imposes a character on the overall sound that makes sampled drums sound a lot more realistic!
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I recently just came down from a huge wave of block! I feel as though a lot of art block comes from a feeling of stagnation, like none of my new ideas are different from my previous ones. I deal with this by simply listening to more music, especially music I'm unfamiliar with! Taking notes from outside your little bubble of genres is a great way to make more interesting tracks once you step back in!
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
Making note of others' inspirations is a very useful tool!! I've been introduced to some of my favorite artists just through having those types of conversations within the community, which inevitably inspired parts of my own music. I think you should always chase new avenues of inspiration first and foremost!
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
What I've loved since the day I joined is the overwhelming sense of fellowship. I've never felt alienated or 'below everyone' within the community, there's always been someone or a group of people to help elevate me. I've made most of my close friends through this site because of that!! The only thing I'd suggest is the ability to add more channels in the Machineste, since I usually end up having to whip out a second one!
Your message to the community:
Make friends, not fans. You will learn so much more about music and about people that way.

Track #1:
dojo futon by ✧*laevent✧*
Formulation was by far the most influential album to me on the whole site. It was my gateway drug into experimental music and ignited an everlasting love for relentlessly attention-deficit drum grooves and chord switches. Track #2:
the pieces fit by naswalt and sim
This track will always be extremely special and nostalgic to me. I owe a great deal to sim and Naswalt for their influence on my style. Naswalt pretty much single-handedly inspired me to try vocals on Audiotool, and sim's dark and grimy production is something I will always adore!!

The entirety of the apogee EP blew me away from the sheer crispness of its production. This track inspired me to chase after more acoustic drum sounds and get really experimental with it. I still take notes from it to this day! Super fun track that brings me back to a good period in my life!!

Track #4:
psychosis by etterath
Bro oh my god. I could rant about this track for hours. From beginning to end you can feel this melancholy weight, even on the most beautiful parts of the track. It morphs chaotically like beauty and horror are violently competing with eachother for space. This track is RAW and very special to me, and there's plenty more where that came from across her profile!! She's one of my biggest inspirations and a great friend :)

Track #5:
The More I Run by Civility
I discovered this artist a few weeks ago, and he's easily become one of my favorites on the site. I love his voice and the way he produces his vocals! He artfully brings a flavor of indie to Audiotool that fits right in and shoots me back to nostalgic days!!

I think this track is most representative of my musical progress so far. It was also made during one of my more creative and consistent periods on the site. We proudly present to you the winner of the last Featured Artist poll. We are especially pleased that it chose such a creative personality who, until not so long ago, could be considered an absolute insider tip. His tracks result from a sophisticated musicality combined with artistic fearlessness and an unerring sense of the extraordinary. Thus sphere's music remains only superficially inaccessible: once it has caught you, it unfolds a claustrophobic beauty that won't let go of the advanced listener. Congratulations on the deserved win.

About Dylon aka sphere
Hello, I’m Sphere. I’m 17, I’m from Texas, and I joined Audiotool around 7 years ago (Yeah, you can do the math on that. It’s a little embarrassing). I’ve gone through a few aliases since then, an incredible amount of mental growth, and more than a few attempted musical styles before getting to where I am now. As for my favorite pizza style, I have no preference. All pizzas are created equal.
Describe the style of music you produce
Most of my music for the last few years has been centered around ambient soundscape kinda stuff, but more recently my music has delved into more of an experimental indie-folk kinda vibe, or at least I’m hoping that’s the direction it goes in. I would like to think I’m going in a direction that hasn’t been explored very much on Audiotool, with the exception of a few others recently.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
In a broad sense, I would have to say the audiotrack, simply because having an entire dedicated sample library at your fingertips allows for near infinite possibilities. More recently, though, I’ve been gravitating towards the ring modulator. Being able to combine the sound of two synths in such an outlandish sounding tone is a very interesting way to get certain sounds out of the regular synthesizers that you wouldn’t be able to get out of them otherwise.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
I think writer’s block is an inevitability for anyone who wants to pursue music. Though I wish there were more I had to say on this subject, there really isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution that works for everyone, and though it’s broad, the only reliable solution I can recommend is just to wait. In some way or another, something always comes back to you. Always.
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
Finding and listening to new music all of the time. Any kind of media sharing service on the internet can be a tool to discover new music that you may have never heard of. The community of Audiotool themselves are a great resource for finding new music as well. The individual tastes of everyone here are so remarkably diverse that you can literally find anything you want if you just know who to ask. Trust me, the more you are willing to listen, the more new music just comes to you, whether that be in YouTube suggested videos or Spotify recommended albums
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
The essence of Audiotool is as much of a community as it is a tool for others. It’s the constant encouragement of ourselves from others in the community that makes us strive to get better. Though it has more than its fair share of quarrels, the community of Audiotool is fundamentally unified through our love of music and our love of art, which is what I believe to be the greatest thing about the website.
Your message to the community:
Everything you do is important, and you are responsible for all the happiness you’ve ever had in your life. You should be proud of yourself for that.

Track #1:
Lonesome by Someone
This is a fairly generic answer, but it’s really obvious to see why. Even outside of audiotool, this is one of the most outlandishly ingenious works of production in any DAW, and the mystery surrounding it makes it an unforgettable gem of Audiotool history.

Track #2:
Call of the Void by opaqity
It feels objective to say that this is one of the most beautiful tracks on Audiotool. It’s a near-perfect show of the beauty of simplicity, and just a great little piano composition that only someone as insanely talented as opaqity could pull off on Audiotool.

Track #3:
Sore Loser by nico and elujjin
here was this super interesting wave of absurdist experimental music on AT around 2019-2020, with Nico and Heissen kind of at the forefront. Eventually, it all coalesced into this absolute fucking beast of a track, which set some seriously crazy precedents in the community. That said, Nico and Heissen are absolute masters of their respective crafts, and their music deserves much attention and appreciation.

Track #4:
Loose End by Wightfall
Wightfall brings a number of elements to Audiotool that very few people ever have, and he manages to create an atmosphere in a lot of his tracks that is near unparalleled even outside of Audiotool, with beautifully haunting melodies and amazing vocals the whole way through.

Track #5:
Inclusive Data by sila
This track is an intensely beautiful demonstration of expert-level sampling, the likes of which I doubt have ever been seen before on Audiotool. The understanding of the DAW required to make such a complex, morphing soundscape like this is really intimidating to think about.

Track #6:
It Ought To Be by sphere
his is sort of the direction I’ve wanted to take my music for a long time, and only recently have I been able to bring it to fruition. You can hopefully expect more music like this from me soon.
