Interview

About: Michael Rogers AKA Dj TeK-NjA :

I'm from West Monroe, Louisiana. I've been with Audiotool about 1yr and a half. Favorite styles of music are Drum and Bass, Jungle, Breakbeats, Tech House, Techno and Lofi. Favorite pizza is the classic Pepporoni.

Describe the style of music you produce

Drum and Bass, Tech House

What is your musical background and when did you start making music?

I started getting big into music and started playing Drums when I was 12 years old, followed by playing Electric Guitar(Metal), and Bass Guitar all up until I started DJing at the age of 20. My Dad was in a very popular local Band called the Mike McKenzie Band, so I grew up around PA/Speakers, Instruments, Bars, Clubs, being VIP as a kid, with the band. I can thank my Dad for teaching me everything I know about music today. The day I touched my first set of turntables, and made my first solid mix, I was hooked. Plus, I also had a ton of other DJ friends that really influenced me on DJing. Anyway, I've been a DJ for almost 20 years now. I started producing on FL Studio about 6 years back, but didn't get really serious about producing until I found this free DAW being Audiotool a little over 2 years ago now.

How long have you been using Audiotool, and how did you discover it?

I've been producing using Audiotool and FL Studio for about 2 years now. I discovered Audiotool, number 1 cause it was free, but also at the time I only had a Chromebook to use, and FL Studio wouldn't run on it's Operating System. After a few months, I upgraded to a much better laptop, and got FL Studio back, and decided to team the 2 programs up. Best choice I made too.

What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?

I have lots of favorites, but if I really had to choose I would say the Pulverisateur. Mainly cause it's the key for my Basslines, those crazy Wub/WaWa sounds, DnBass Preset, not to mention all the other crazy presets for it.

What is your favourite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?

Tweaking the Pulverisateur's Oscillaters knobs, Bass Frequency knob, and the Rate on how I make all my Wub/WaWa sounds for Drum and Bass music

Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues

If writer's block means being braindead at times on what to produce, then yea I get that way from time to time. Listening to other producers can help and inspire, but honestly, for me, I literally have to get myself in the Zone somehow. I can set up a project and start, but if I'm not in my musical Zone, then I'll back out, and pick back up at a later time. I'm sure other producers know what I'm talking about. When your just not feeling, your just not feeling it. When your in your Zone, however you get there, it's time to make some music!

What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?

The tutorial video's on Youtube helped me figure out what sounds I liked, and what I've become as a producer today. Also, hearing other producers and what all they can do with their instruments, just inspired me to learn as much as I could, plus influenced me to push the boundaries on how to tweak and use the instruments available to us.

What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?

What I like most about Audiotool, is the visualization for the DAW itself. You can actually see what all your hooking up and you can hear the raw feel to it all, versus other DAWS. I mean this is the way producers back in the 90's would have to set up their stuff in real life, with Hardware. We can experience the old school, virtually. Love it. As far as suggestions, I just wish we didn't have to always be online for the DAW to work, but I understand why it is the way it is. Also, adding some sort of Spectrum Analyzer would be cool, but hey I'm good the way things are today. No complaints on my end.

Track #1:

ah007 by Alex Hoffman

One of my favorite Breakbeat producers right here. Big influence towards the old school feel to music for me. Brings back memories of when I was a teenager.

One of the craziest tracks in my opinion. Love the thunderstorm in the background, and the level of production from this producer.

Track #3:

LOW ft. Sub4sax by Head Trauma Romance and Sub4sax

Sub4Sax and HTR killed it on this track. One of the sickest tracks in Audiotool in my opinion.

Track #5:

let go dub by floydpjasper

This track showed me how in depth Audiotool can really go. The ambience and vocals along with the bassline truly inspired me for making good sound production. Hopefully it will inspire others like it has me.

    Lost in the Jungle

  • Ok I just wanna say this, not that it really matters, but I claimed that I'd been with Audiotool for 2 years. I was more or less curious, so I looked it up. I started in July 2023...after researching, I found out that I've been with Audiotool for exactly 1 year, 10 months, and 14 days. So my apologies for my mistake in time frames. I was mainly just generalizing my time on here. So, now you know. Apologies friends. Not that it really matters that much, but hey I try my best to truthful, even if I have to call myself out on things. I'm only human and still learning as I go, no matter how old I am. That will always be the case.

    • See that's kind of what I was thinking too. LOL...Just round it up pretty much LOL..

    • You signed up on June 20, 2023. That's close enough to call it two years.

    • There is no problem friend

  • Here is the unboxed short video of my track called Blade of Fire. Be sure to check out the full track if you wanna hear more of it.
