The melody and the high hats are easy to make it's just the 808. I've been experimenting and when I try to place notes in the machineste and it usually sounds like ass it's usually not long enough *PAUSE* its plays for a short duration. (tips/help PLEASE)
Using a synth lets you use your 808 as a tuned bass instriment. I recommend layering a 'punchy' kick drum on top of your subby 808 sound to help it cut better through the mix.
Firstly, make the baseline a few octave higher so you can truly hear the notes they play, then find the keys that best support the melody (mine are mainly c, d#, and f# sometimes with others). Then set the scale to 1/16 and fire away. Don't forget to make sure the bass falls in line with the kicks, then sidechain them.
The 808 is arranged as 16th notes. You can count out the 16th notes, and find where you want to place beats. Kick drum in 4/4 in most electronic music genres is on beats 1, 2, 3 and 4. Claps are typically on beats 2&4, and open hihats are on 3,6,9 and 12. I hope that helps.
