[[Attachment:1]]There have been some strange sightings of design changes today. We read your complaints and questions on discord, here onsite and kinda everywhere we are in touch with you. And yes, the stories you heard are true.
We are working on some changes on the player design. This went accidentally live for a couple of hours today which was not intended since the design wasn’t completely finished and there were some bugs we still hadn’t fixed yet.
To get you up to speed: We started with a complete overhaul of the website which is a major task and Martin is doing one hell of a job. The aim of the redesign is to increase usability and get the overall appearance of Audiotool more up to date and more user-friendly. The news board was one of the first things we changed. While working on this we noticed that we work faster and get better results when we do it in short iterations (surprise!) so we will add new stuff every now and then.
Sorry for the confusion we may have caused with this player incident today but trust us – the redesign will be really nice.

The waveform isn't final. The blue is a bit too obtrusive and the waveforms are too tall. Also we noticed that the three-shaded version looks less like a brick-wall for most tracks.

The design contains some changes to existing stuff as well as completely new functionality. It would however probably not be wise to create expectations in any way (what/when/how certain things will come)...
That being said - yes, some customisation of the user profiles is in the screen designs.... :-)

long story short: yes.
a little longer: is generally part of the website relaunch. however, as we are not anywhere near a "big bang approach" (having everything done and flipping a switch), this will probably be something not coming into place before most of the relaunch is done.
The partial upgrades you might see from time to time will mostly focus on a specific feature or look, not on mobile optimisation.

V cool. Not a big fan of the blue wave form in the new design tho. It was cooler when it whas grey'ish and it got filled with blue color as you listen to the track. Now it is the other way around which doesn't look good to the eye. But I guess we get used to it as time passes by

so for the waveforms, i was thinking about the coloring and thought, "What if instead of a gray taking over the blue color, we had a stronger shade of blue taking over the waveform instead?"

I’m going to now express unpopular opinion that is probably going to result in this comment being downvoted. I am not alone in having this opinion. I kind of don’t like the redesign, and to me personally it seems unnecessary. I don’t think that there is really anything is currently wrong with websites design right now except dumb minor Nitpicks. The only major problem with the site, solely looking at how it is set up, is the mobile version and how broken it is, as well as the mobile player(I am well aware that there are plans to fix it, but I feel as though that is a more glaring issue. I could think a ton of problems that are probably more glaring a problem than the current visual design of the website, that I feel require attention much more than the way the website looks. The website as it is currently from a visual design perspective is not broken, but there are a lot of other things that are broken imo. Too add, I saw some of the examples of potential replacements for the waveform of tracks, and do not feel as though any of them are good replacements that I would say are better than the one we currently have. The website redesign in this picture, imo looks too soundcloudy, with way too many hashtags, and looks overall cluttere. you could argue that the current design of the sites track view is also cluttered, but I don’t feel as though this is much of an improvement, and either way the alternative is tracks taking up so much space and forcing people to scroll down a lot more as a result. TL; DR the current visual design is fine and the new one isn’t an improvement imo and isn’t a necessary change imo. There are more glaring issues that need attention than the look of the website imo.

Not going into every detail: The mobile version cannot be improved easily without changing the current site. We have plans to add new features to the site which neither fit into the current structure or design. Each developer has their own strengths. To put this in other words. Some dev working on the website, isn't necessarily a lost dev for the studio.
The waveform isn't important at all - it's just a thing people seem care about :)
maybe audiotool.com for pc/laptop and mobile.audiotool.com for phone/tablets

i really like this idea
i think there is something to consider that is a major setback to activity and engagement on this site. most of todays youth, ages 12-24, have and heavily utilize a mobile device for music consumption, and all major streaming services that i know of have a mobile app to reach this audience. audiotool also has a mobile website, and has enabled users to play audio on it. the setback that i see is that if you turn off the screen on your mobile device while listening to a album, it finishes the song that was playing and once it is finished with that song, it stops playing. if audiotool kept playing the rest of the album after the screen was off, i am confident that the general activity on the website would increase. i agree with crippling compression that there are more pressing issues to be looking into. if the devs are wanting to improve the user experience, i believe that enabling passive engagement on mobile devices is the most urgent and effective way to go about it. idk if that is their intention and i don't want to assume, so if you get around to reading this (on top of all your hard work that you do for us) please know first and foremost that i appreciate what you do, and second that imo this is a worthwhile investment of time and effort that i would value this bug being fixed more than website appearances. well wishes as you go about ur day!

Afaik there's no way for a browser application to stay active when the phone goes into standby. Modern browsers aggressively try to extend your battery lifetime by shutting down everything that doesn't look important.
If you know a webpage that manages to play audio even though your phone is in standby, I'd be very interested!
One way out would be a dedicated player app. This would be a major task and users would have to install another app. ATM we simply don't have the resources for that.
@chordofdestruction web versions of Soundcloud and Spotify work with browser minimised and screen off on Android.
I've noticed audiotool doesn't preload next song, so there's a pause between finishing one and playing the other. Maybe that's when the app is put to sleep? But if there's a way to implement a continuous uninterrupted playback it might solve the issue
I'd like to encourage you to give the redesign of the audiotool website a fair chance when (not if) it comes around.
Please kindly keep in mind that only one screen has been made public and the audiotool website consists of many very specific areas (user profiles, user walls, song profiles, charts, genre overviews, message boards and many many more). So there is a lot of pages that might be improved (if we did our job right).
We've had a design team work on the overhaul for quite some time and we are confident they came up with a really pleasing result that will improve overall appearance/style, usability/ease-of-use and mobile accessibility.
As said, we are working on this step by step, but we will not announce an ETA, as urgent priorities or simply running into issues might delay the process. And since change to details might still happen during implementation (e.g. @chordofdestruction working on the waveform details), we decided not to publish the complete set of screen designs.
Long story short: We are super stoked about the new design and we sincerely hope you will be as well, once it shines on your screen ;-)

i agree with this too the probe ain't working for me multiple channels cross feed through each other so you can't record guitar and vocals at the same time unless you do it all through 1 mic would be better if you had drop down options on audio tracks to choose an input and record live

2.) Some people might have missed parts of earlier discussions, hence, I'd like to prevent misunderstandings:
Yes, we are working on a overall relaunch and some added functionality for the website. No, we did not say what the ETA is :-)
But you'll see little changes here and there then and now!
3.) It's also correct that work on a new Audio engine is being done (and we've been working on that for quite some time now and already covered a lot). However, as you probably assumed, this is a big piece of software and we do not have an ETA either.
4.) We've had some issues (basically: studio not opening) over the last days and also on the weekend. We are super sorry for any inconvenience causes by that.
Strangely, things seem to work for some users and the don't for others. Of course, we do our best to resolve those matters asap, but I am afraid that might not be resolved on the weekend.
