there used to be a machiniste preset that had an equalised 707 but it no longer exists, would it be infringement to upload my own roland drum machine hits?

  • Technically you require Roland's permission. The 707 sounds themselves are digital samples, and not generated from analog synthesis in the box. This is different from, for example if you sampled a DSI Tempest, where all the drum sounds are generated from onboard analog.

Sampling it onto your native DAW for use in your own tracks wouldn't be a problem. But once you put those samples onto the Audiotool server, it counts as redistribution and technically Audiotool could get in trouble with Roland. It's very very unlikely, but possible.

    • Cool, that's good to know. I'm going sample that today.

    • Yeah analog drum machines are total fair game.

    • So, what you're saying is that any analogue drum machine can be legally sampled, right? I recently got hold of an Arturia Drumbrute (100% analog), and I thought of maybe uploading some of the sounds to AT. Would that be acceptable? (I'm assuming it would be, but I'm just making sure)

  • The only way it wouldn't be infringement is if you actually owned a tr606 or 707 and personally sampled it. If you uploaded samples from a pack it would definitely be infringement, and that's why all those samples and maschiniste presets went away in the first place.

    • Well, you might want to check with a dev before you sample that 707. My guess is that it would be allowed, but the 707 is a sample-based drum machine. Normally, sample based drum machines wouldn't be allowed for upload, but since the 707 is old you might be able to get away with it (emphasis on "might"). Anyways, just to be safe, ask a dev because I really don't know enough about this to give a definitive answer.

    • perfect my father owns a 707 looks like thats going on the christmas list, thanks
