Idk where I was going with this

Bleed (AT Day) - original.

The most difficult part was to adjust the already existing choices to my way of working with audio. One of the big issues that is still fairly present is the sheer loudness the original mix pushed for and the mastering chain. While compression, limiting and so on are necessary for a good loud mix, aggressive compression can mess sound up much more than it helps.

It brought the character of the kick alive though, and even though the kick was hitting freakishly high volumes at times, it's one of the driving forces of this song. I also tried to adjust the frequency content in a way where not too much overlaps and causes masking. Even if I'm not the best at proper EQ, just putting HPF and LPF filters on each element gave the instruments room to breathe and stand out regardless of volume. The bass frequencies are already fairly intensly occupied by the kick, so other elements really didn't need to sit any lower than like 400Hz (with roll-off). If I did even more proper leveling and gain-staging, this mix would sound a lot better, but frankly I'm lazy.
