Stefan Holzner

The list of Psy Trance musicians on Audiotool isn't the longest. Brainwalker definitely belongs to its pioneers and flagships. In every single note of his output you can feel the experience he has collected over the years he has been into this genre and music in general. A must at every Goa event!

Interview

Stefan Holzner Place: Augsburg near Munich (Germany) Age: 40 Profession: This year I completed a training as a nurse for handicapped people. Before that I was a businessman for 20 years, but it doesn't suit me anymore ;-)

Musical Style
Oh, that's not easy – my tracks are inspired by many different styles, from Psy-Trance, Dub, Retro, 8-bit to Rock and Pop - it depends on my mood and different influences in my life… The main genre which I will produce more of in future consists of all kinds of Psy-Trance… The other genres inspire me, but Psy-Trance is what I really love :)
Musical Background
I never learned any kind of instrument… About twenty years ago I bought a Djembe and played with friends in nature and at Cosmic-Music Festivals. I think that was my first serious contact with a musical instrument… Later a friend loaned me an electri -guitar for some months and I explored the great sounds and rhythms, but I never had guitar-lessons.
Started making music
I started to make music when I was roundabout 13. I played around with an Music-Tracker called "Pro-Tracker" on the Amiga 500. I was totally fascinated by creating my own music. I made lots of short tracks, recorded them on cassettes and shared them with friends. In the middle of the 90's I started to buy some cheaper hardware synthesizers and keyboards to produce my own Techno and Trance-stuff.
On Audiotool
Two and a half years ago, my girlfriend asked me if I could look for good and cheep music programms for her, because she wanted to check out making music… I searched for a few hours in the web – and tadaaa: I found Audiotool! I was really surprised by it's possibilities and since that time I have been inspired to make music with Audiotool. The crazy thing about this is, that I never wanted to produce with software, because I tested one of the usual suspects and it worked against my creativity, but Audiotool convinced me with its easy and clear handling.
Message to the community
For me Audiotool is seriously one of the best tools for producing music. Because it supports my way to be creative. Other kinds of music software are overloaded with possibilities and less intuitive things. I think my creativity gets pushed, if my options are limited – and I definitely have more fun this way! Other DAWs may have 10.000 options and you can download tons of plug-Ins – but that way I never came to an end ;-) On the other hand I really like the community! I found a few friends there and sometimes it's surprising how much some people improve in a few months! It helps me to go on with my music and some comments helped me to improve myself – thanks a lot! Sometimes I wish other producers would respect Audiotool! I know so many really good artists on this site – and often the only thing they can say: what – no plugins? – than I won't try it – but it's your fault guys ;-)
