[Hybrid]
Kahliel Jones
[Hybrid] has been an insider tip for a considerable time. About three years ago his deep, atmospheric track 'Please Keep Breathing' had not only made it on the second a+ compilation 'Amorfx', it also topped the a-records charts on Beatport for more than a year. His mixture of abstract beats and intense sound formations is definitely worth a listen.

- Musical Style
- My style is a combination of samples (used as textures) that are tweaked using the pitch knob on the Machiniste, coupled with many different variations of leads and pads (primary created with the Heisenberg; occasionally the Pulv) and a wide variation of Drums and percussion, typically created through the Machiniste and Beatbox 8. I don't fall under any specific Genre, I experiment with many sounds, although I always try to create a sense of bliss and euphoria through my music, and I always try to include some type of Jazz.
- Musical Background
- I was born into a very musical family; My mother sang and played guitar, my grandfather also sang and played piano, drums and any kind of brass instrument you could think of, and I had a cousin named Ronnie Brown who used to play for a world-famous Avante Garde Jazz group named Sun Ra (lead Trumpeter). My grandfather was the one to teach me my first instrument (harmonica) and he really took it seriously whenever we'd sing songs in the car, so he gave me a better sense of Key and Tone. When I was about 11, I took my first band class and picked up the trumpet. I did learn much as far as trumpet goes, until I spent a week with my cousin Ronnie, who taught me, just whithin that week, everything I know about reading music. From there on, I played trumpet til I was about 13 and picked up the guitar. Shortly after, my mom bought me my first drumset. So essentially was learning guitar and drums at the same time, and got pretty decent at both. I still play guitar a lot, but I'm primarily producing on Audiotool now.
- Started making music
- I started creating my own music, when I was about 13 years old. Writing lyrics and composing guitar chords to create my initial sound. over the years, my writing skills have developed tremendously.
- On Audiotool
- I discovered Audiotool on a foggy morning when I was 16. me and a couple of stoners went back to a friend's house to get all lazy and surf the internet. I remember know how it got brought up but I do remember one of my girl friends saying "you know there's an app on chrome that you can make dubstep on right?". I imediately had a change in mood and asked over and over again to tell me the name of the app (Audiotool). Since then, I've been hooked. Making music and practicing every day on the app. I can almost remember my first "favorite" Who I believe was from OscarOllie (love you). Audiotool changed my entire life, and essentially gave me more purpose as a creator.
- Message to the community
- I only really have 2 things to say: 1. Thank you So much to the audiotool crew that helped make this DAW possible. I really can't tell you how much I appreciate having a free platform that still works as an authentic software to create professional production. Like I said earlier, it's changed my life in the most positive way, and now I feel like I'm at a place where I can really make a living off of it. 2. To the AT community: Follow your own path. Whether you want as many followers as possible, or just live to create a beautiful sound for your own purposes, FOLLOW YOUR OWN PATH. I'm personally trying to make it in the music industry and sometimes I have to ignore a lot of the AT users that I even look up to, just because their advice doesn't suit my path. So in the end, trust your gut, and make it whatever you want it to be. But also, PRACTICE. Practice practice practice and don't get lazy. Don't resort to only using loops that are off-key, really put time and effort into it, and understand that it is WORK and wont be easy at first; With that mentality, you wont be so overwhelmed. That's all I have to say.
