Is Audotool a DAW or just a beat creator?

I found this in the play store apps, and fiddled around with it, but I can't import my own audio tracks, only 30s samples, so I'm assuming this is just a sampler/beat creator, right?

If so, then it's really of no use to a musician like me that composes real music.

I thought if this was a DAW, then I can import my own tracks, then invite others to collaborate, but it's starting to look more like just a beat creator.

  • yeah no, this is an actual audio workstation. the only difference between this, and lets say FL is that audiotool works on mostly google chrome and nothing else. its all in the browser. but yes, it is a DAW, complete with piano roll, digital and virtual instruments and built in effects and plugins. unfortunately you cant use external VSTs because, from what i can infer, it is literally impossible, or at least, very difficult to implement.

    • ah, my bad, i didnt know that it was still compatable with other browsers. thanks for the correction

    • Correction: AT runs without issue in more browsers than Google, like Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Opera. The focus on Google is due to it being the browser the developers mainly work for.

  • This is an online DAW with a full range of virtual instruments and it doesn't limit your compositional abilities in any way. You can collaborate with other in it, import and even record audio directly into it. The 30 seconds limit is to avoid copyright issues.

    • Go around AT and look at what tracks have been made with it and tell again that it is not complete DAW. Just because you're a lazy M F who lacks creativity in making music and all you can do is import ready-made tracks and then call it that you made music, doesn't mean AT is not a DAW.

    • Audiotool is an online DAW, in the same category than similar apps like Soundtrap, Soundation, Bandlab, AudioSauna and so on. It is comparatively more flexible and powerful than most of them. Some of them don't even support audio and still are considered DAWs. Online DAWs have less functionality and power than offline DAWs for obvious reasons. But, as I and others already mentioned, Audiotool lets you record your own tracks in real time. And the 30 second limit on uploads don't make the app a "basic beat maker". If you have any experience producing music, you'll know that audio tracks like vocals are often comped from several shorter sections. Several artists here, me included, work around the 30 second limit and create songs incorporating vocal, instrumental and percussion tracks produced outside the Studio with hardware gear. Have a look at the Genres page and you'll find examples of that.

    • In case you did not know: it is possible to record your tracks directly into the audiotool app, the 30s rule only applies to uploaded samples. Here you have a guide if you want to know more about this -
