I'm working on improving my tonal balance. It's important for me that my mixes sound bright and full of energy, but not sharp and thin. The pulv and heisenberg oscillators are not as bright as I initally thought, and giving a slight boost to the treble with a high shelf helped tremendously.

For the melody, I used several saw patches. One was heavily stereo separated and didn't have much bite. I added another synth which was more coarse and was more agressive. I added a chorused pluck to beef up the midrange, as well as a pad with white noise to add brightness to the sides of the mix.

I would love to hear some honest feedback :)

  • For me It sounds good I'd just add a little more very low basses (around 80-90 hz) but it's a personal opinion. Very good work!

  • Wow this actually sounds really nice, damn...

I highly suggest not high-shelfing for a brightness boost, it creates so much extra noise that you're not gonna want. Use exiter if you're looking for more saturation.

You really seem to have your layering down, it's sounds really good. Sound design is on point too.

I'm also gonna take a second to appreciate how well mixed and mastered this is... eq is important as hecc doh- use eq to cut out extra low end to make room for that b a s s. lol

    • Today I used a high shelf to boost a saw patch, but added a 48db/oct lpf to roll off 10K and above.

I'll mess with the waveshaper and exciter as well

    • Hey Stormdrain!

Thank you so fricking much, my guy. I've been dying to receive actual constructive criticism on my trance stuff for so long. It's easy to not appreciate my skills as a producer when I'm constantly striving for something better.

I think your stuff is super high quality so your praise means a lot :D

I'll definitely try different techniques for brightening my saws.

    • All around this is like 9/10 production, my guy.
