For this competition I wanted to make a "dancefloor" D&B track so I needed to make it catchy, bouncy and something you can "sing along" to. I got some inspiration for this track from the likes of Dimension, Metrik, Sub Focus etc.

As usual I started my production with the drums - layering my kicks and snares and adding a hi hat in there for extra flavour.

The main synth was a preset I found in Audiotool and I tweaked it, as well as the other alternative synths you'll hear throughout the track.

I also chopped the vocal to give it a little more upbeat vybe in one of the phrases so there's something a little different in each phrase you hear.

Copied the melody of the synth and added a sub bass under it so it doesn't sound flat.

Adding in some atmos throughout the track to give it some depth. As well as risers to give the track some crescendos throughout.

I gave it a slow intro with a calm, relaxing piano as I thought it suited the vocals well. Not before cutting the piano off for when the kick drums come in.

Also added in some random glitchy sound effects to give the track little bits of randomness/misdirection.

Hope you enjoy!

Feedback is well appreciated.

  • Made some changes -

    - Added reverb to all synths and vocals to give it more depth.

    - Changed drum pattern intro to give it a much better and impactful build up.

    - Brought the build up bass more so it isn't filtered as much and makes the drop hit harder.

  • So for the composition, structure, melodies, etc... nothing to say, you have ideas and that's great. Now, for me, the whole thing sound a bit "dry", some instruments could use more room with delay and reverb (the voices and the leads for instance). After the kick accelerando, your bass is coming but is not really audible, so it make it not really impactfull, and that's a shame cause it's a good riff you have here. It needs more dynamic changes for the drops.

    • Thanks for the feedback Pyra!

I'll try make these tweaks and hopefully the track glues together a bit more.

    • You need to sound design it and mix it a bit more so it can be more clear and impactfull. But still, really good composition here.
