  • Knock it off dude, you're too perfect

  • love your pocket, makes me wanna get real drums and record them. since ur a drummer im wondering if the 3-2-3 groove has a name? is it considered a tresillo but starting on the second 3?

    • and yeah I expected you to resolve eventually to Db minor or major so pivoting instead with the Eb chord was cool as well to get to Ab, takes you on a trip nice trip. and yeah hahahaha pedal tones are definitely convenient, truly the modern jazz way of voice leading to anywhere lol

    • I got the drum pad probably around 5 or so years ago now, it's the DD-65 yamaha drum pad, it's decent except for the foot pedals, they're just buttons so it's hard to develop good foot technique with them and they're not as responsive as I'd like

    • eeee im glad you dig the harmony!! rarely get to geek out about theory here :) i knew i wanted to end up at Ab somehow, using the A and E lydian sonorities as a phrygian cadence type beat. the Bbm and Fm are like a sneaky way of getting to E while also hinting at the eventual Ab resolution.

      there are a bunch of ways to think abt it but really everything works if you have a pedal tone lmao

  • that is maximum sexy

  • the rythym is amazing

  • listening to this the next day here are my notes for next time;

    i like the Eb4-3 with the Ab on top a lot less than i thought i would. def should have voiced it better—maybe with the m9 reinforced by a half-step a la brookmeyer? the move up to pedal A ( 0:26 ) comes as a surprise esp with the switch to the ride. could be softened by either some sfx brightening the mix or a better drum fill. don't know why i thought to cut the strings at the hits but it def feels like it needs something more there

    • thanks sm ollie! very good chance i will take you up on that :)

    • if you ever want a hand with mixing or whatnot feel free to hmu! More than happy to help! I dont know much theory but am p proficient with processing!

    • in terms of mixing i think i did ok for a quick mix but i could def do better. i mixed the drums like i've seen @sim do it, which works really nicely to blend with guitars and such but here it sounds muddy with the strings and high mid keys. also i should record the bass tone with more high end, even if it doesn't sound great when i'm recording it's always easier to subtract from a sound than risk it getting lost in the mix. the bass didn't show up at all on phone speakers
