Sumad

Alexander Obst

Alexander Obst aka Sumad is a real technical genius. His methods are as unique as they are unmatched on Audiotool. From the very beginning his technically and musically elaborate, claustrophobic Minimal tracks convinced users and team members alike. So it was not surprising that with 'Sumersum' he released the first a-records album ever in 2011. The sound design plays a special role in his production. By the use of bouncing and other tricky recording techniques he creates this special organic sound for which he is known and admired.

Musical Style
I don't really know if I have a style. At the moment it's pretty dub-chordish. For some time now I have been tuning the synths to 432hz instead of the usual 440hz as I feel this makes it more harmonious. Besides which I sample the things I do in Audiotool using a microphone or some other analogue machine to avoid sterility. This method often leads to an atmospheric noise which I like to keep: I really love it cause the tracks gain more depth. Most of my tracks are build on one basic tone, I rarely work with melodies. In addition to this I use only a minimum of elements.
Musical Background
I started playing the guitar and Keyboards at the age of 14 mainly with Punk and Hardcore. My father gave me a lot of support by constructing me an amplifier and speakers and giving me a room in the cellar for my hobby.
On Audiotool
In Autumn 2010 I discovered Audiotool which is now my main program.
Message to the community
A big thumbs-up for the developers. A very easy-to-use programm with practically everything you need. I would only wish for a sampler to load pianos or other stuff to play in the app and a delay which you can adjust to milliseconds. And otherwise: Don't watch TV it makes you stupid, make more music instead!
