It's about balance. I'm not the best at it, but if you listen to some of my tracks, I've gotten a basic understanding of how to get synths to fit together. It's like a big puzzle - and each synth/drum are the pieces.
@Vulkron is a beast at mastering - any tips vulky?

Mixing, simply put, is making sure that the angry neighbors all yelling at once can be heard, and making sure that no fist fights break out.
You've got mr. basshead over here, and he needs his space - but if you give him too much, he'll block out all of the other neighbors.
Then you've go mr. mid - he's the biggest, and eats the most food (which is sonic space).
Highs have a pretty nasty sound if they're not balance with everyone else - and can cause damage to people's ears.
