For Closed: Beatbox Day is here! , a cute little track for which the main inspiration was using the cowbell as a 5th interval to make dope chords. Unfortunately, I don't know how to fit dope chords into a track like this, so alas, I settled on 3 uninteresting 7th chords. Also I'm away from my "studio" so all I had for mixing were some shitty bluetooth earbuds that are too bass-heavy. Who knows if I've over or under-compensated. I might fix it after the competition is over.

Typically with challenges like this, I use filter resonance to produce tones and distortion to introduce harmonics, which creates a lot of flexibility but also mangles the original sounds beyond recognition. Here, I wanted to keep the 808 sounds mostly recognizable, so I only created tones by using the Rasselbock to pitch things down.

kick: kick + conga with Rasselbock stop for extra punch

stabby 7th chords: 2 cowbells at minor or major 3rds

16th note melody: clave

16th note arp: conga

pad: like the stabby chords, but with full wet reverb

bass "guitar" in the break: yet more cowbell
