The crusher chain reduces bitrate slightly (I think - the bitcrusher knob is tuned to about 0.83%. I wish there was a less noticeable jump from 0.86% to 0.93% but whatever lol) and decreasing the bit amount adds static. The static is basically super blown out distortion turned down a bunch
