Decided to go for a Melodic Dubstep remix with this one :) Wrote some piano, drum, and viola parts through Cubase, then recorded an acoustic guitar part and imported it as well.

The song got me in my feels a bit and I decided to write a whole 32 measure rap bridge over it. While Po9t's lyrics are written from the POV of his dog, I decided to write from the POV of the owner, who (unknowingly to the dog) is wrestling with the hard reality that he must move to some place where he cannot bring his dog.

The lyrics together feel really metaphorical to me; symbolizing the way you sometimes lose good friends in your life due to circumstances you can't control, and all you can really do is keep moving forward hope to be united with them again either in this life or the next.

____Rap Lyrics____

[Please Welcome: Mr. Outside...]

Chasing you through these fields

With things I feel but cannot say

Like rain that kills a sunny day

It pours with thoughts inside my brain

I lie awake, I know I cannot stay

Can't say goodbye because

It hurts Too much to see your face

I'll throw the ball and walk away

Send you off to run before I skate

To 'scape the hurt. You smell the pain

There's something in the air today

The stars are dim, it's not the same

You sit and whine

And I start to cry

Then I pull you in

As I hug you tight

You don't know why

I'm acting this way

But I'm sure to you

It feels so strange

I wish that you could speak

I'd spill out everything I hide, yet as I try

My words can't bridge the gap between our minds

I hope to see you on the other side

Somewhere in the afterlife

Where it's you and me, and no goodbyes

....

  • That snare is just 🤌 *chef's kiss*

  • Chapeau 🫡 you made this your own. Haven’t thought that anyone is still using Cubase nowerdays. Interesting

    • I've got an entire list of plugins to suggest, but for VST i would agree that serum is the go-to for big name dubstep and EDM artists and tons of other genres too as it's a very versatile synth.

    • For EDM the Serum might be useful. I bought it and never use it because I just prefer making music with Audiotool. If I would suggest something then the utronic and the Synplant 2 by Sonic Charge. And the Native Instruments Komplete Bundles are expencive but definitely a good thing to work with. I tested the BABY Audio synths, they are pretty good too. But no Pulverisateur out there

    • Ah nice, I only bought Cubase Elements online a few months ago, pretty happy with it so far. I mostly use it for recording vocals, guitar, and writing drum parts. This track was the first time I really used it write parts for other instruments haha

Ableton is going to be next though, I'd really like to learn it and use it to start producing EDM down the road. Any useful tips or suggestions? Or know of any VSTs and plugins I would want to check out?
