try thinking about drone noise as well. My Syntax dnb track has some sounds that may be useful if you work with the audiotracks. They could be helpful if you cut them up to act as quiet, but annoying deep bass noise.
Do you want the harder sound to be a hit like a hihat or a longer building sound? If you want killer harsh, put a slope on it in band pass with resonance at 100% and automate the frequency around....you'll get real harsh feedback sound LOL
Thanks man. I kinda wasn't too sure about how to make a build up during the soft chords after the intro. I thought the hihat would've actually been a nice tension builder. And honestly, I wasn't quite sure how else to express it.
My head exploded listening to that intro! Wow! I also love the degradation in the end. The middle is all freaky, which I think is the point. That hi hat early in the track is like a ticking clock. It wears on me a little, but I think that's a good thing because it shouldn't feel good. I also agree the orca like sound is great.

I would guess so. But still, it irks me that I couldn't think of a better "hard" sound other than a phased hihat. >.<
It does build tension because it's more harsh hard sound is juxtaposed against the soft and strange chords.
