Audial, This pad is a snare in disguise

00:0004:15

back with another oneshot-turned-pad (this time in 3/4, not that it makes much difference in an ambient track).

Everything in this is made from the same oneshot, not just the pad.

.

Not particularly good, quick one day project so that I actually publish something!

The sample I used was ARW.Snare_20 and the other samples are just timeline bounces. The pulv is there for envelope control of the pad using the pulvs "audio in" feature.

Workflow is a mess...

i imagine if u time stretched the sample to slow it down the natural curvature of the wavefrom would make for a really good pad actually

Need to give 3/4 a more serious go, where the rhythm comes through more obivously

that is an extremely accurate, detailed, and well rounded answer to my question. I very much appreciate you taking the time to refresh me on the basics. I feel that over time, complacency definitely kicks in for most people (like me) and we forget even some of the most basic principles on which we were taught. You've reminded me how important it is to practice things, even the most basic, daily and why. Reason is the most important detail of all. Thank you a thousand times over! :) Homage to you

So while you can technically write the exact same music in 4/4 and 3/4 or indeed any signature, the natural thing to do is divide up the beats of your track into chunks (bars) of the right size so that the phrases and rhythms of your track neatly fit into these bars

The phrases (percussion, chords and melody) are written in 3/4, they have stresses and accents that fit in three beat chunks. A typical 4/4 percussion phrase will have the snare on beats 2 and 4, so fits neatly in a bar with 4 beats whereas it would not fit in a bar with 3 beats. You could write music that should be written in 4/4 in 3/4 instead but your phrases wouldn't fit neatly into the 3 beat bars, i.e the division into 3 beat bars would be unnatural and unhelpful.

The amount of automation for the pad alone makes me want to cry

Honestly most of the automation is changing rassle slow speed and Helmholtz notes which is essentially just like using a note track!
