For old drafts, it may be worth just keeping them around. You can sometimes use something from them and bounce the sample. I've done that with a lot of failed drafts that had one or two things I really liked. If you don't care about getting credit for the work, you can turn it into a public template for someone else to finish. It's no rights reserved, so no one has to give you credit if you do this. It may only be worth doing this for small drafts where you just have one or two things done. This way if you delete them, they might help someone else.
