Some people lie about science. They think they are smart or they think they are doing something good without actually validating much or anything. Sometimes they intentionally do something wrong because they're more interested in getting the money quickly than actually finishing the job. What's terrible is that some people even play the "Devil's Advocate" role and corrupt honest people into joining in with the scams. If you want real science, you might have to do it yourself, see it through all the way, and actually pay attention when someone dangles a carrot over your head about something. Or, if you're completely fine with the hot mess we think is science, you could just sit around and do nothing but doing something mostly repetitive and unamusing.
