I just heard this amazing track by Snadbrugen and I loved it, just want to preface this with that statement. That being said, although I appreciate the "overdriven" sound that a lot of hip hop tracks adopt nowadays, I'm kind of more interested in hearing what a dirty/distorted bass sounds like, but without the intentional clipping. I've always believed it's possible to get that same sort of sound, but without taking away from the rest of the mix.

So I dialed back the bass (which turned out to be a loop) and slapped some EQing and FX on, and then put a gate limiter on the master output. The visualizer says it's clipping still, but the actual instruments are barely lighting up. I basically did my best to "clean up" the sound, while still trying to maintain vibe and tone. I don't know if I did a very good job as I'm still learning so I'd love any notes on what could be done or what shouldn't have been done

Keep in mind, this is NOT a remix, this NOT my project, I just wanted to put this out as an example of what I'm trying to learn as far as EQing compression, and limiting goes, and how those are beneficial to a mix. I feel like with the changes I made, though not perfect, help other parts of the track shine through.

Of course this is all subjective, you may like the original better, and I'm not saying this is better, I'm just saying it's A LITTLE DIFFERENT. I don't take credit for any of it, other than thanking Snadbrugen for making such awesome inspirational stuff <3

For those who open it up and want to see what I did, I mainly worked on the "Best vocal Best" sample located on Audiotrack (1).

Stay classy <3
