don't use presets exclusively. You can use them for learning and studying, but sound design comes with practice. Just fool around with the plugins. Figure out what things do. Watch videos even - graphical EQ's are still graphical EQ's whether it's Fabfilter or AT - they still have the same basic function. It's a learning curve
