This has been by far one of my favourite songs to cover, ever, but it was always hard for me to get a good take.
Then, a few days ago, I was playing in one of my favourite spots: a parking garage underneath a dollar tree near where I live. Seems like a random place, I know, but the acoustics there are perfect(trust me).
So it was another night, just chilling and playing my songs, and then I wanted to record Monsters again, which is originally made by James Blunt, and covered by Iam Tongi, who was on American Idol. I chose to record Iam Tongi's version, which usually rests on capo 1, instead of the original's three. As I was playing, I noticed an older woman with her three little grandkids, watching and recording me play. That was the first time someone's ever recorded me playing out like that, but I didn't stop, because I was in the best take I've ever had of this song so far. So when I got done playing, the grandma whispered something to her grandkids, and they all came over to me, handing out a dollar bill each.
It was the sweetest moment I've ever experienced, seeing their smiley faces as they knew they were being kind. And it meant a lot to me to, being able to be on the receiving end of that kindness, it was just so incredibly awesome. And the grandma came over, we talked for a bit, about music, about our faith, etc.
It was just an awesome moment, and I wanted to share it with you along with another message:
