When it comes to brand, it's much of a muchness. Set yourself these criteria - i5 cpu (the i3 is eh ok but i5 is better) 6gb+ of RAM, decent sound card and if you can a good graphics card with DEDICATED memory. With this set up your laptop can happily tick along while AT uses a massive chuck of memory. After that it's what ever you think is the coolest.
Check pc world, they've always got good deals on, especially around christmas, and check the refurbished laptops. You get higher spec laptops cheaper, the draw backs are they're mostly only online and you can't use any discounts/promos and they're refurbed so there may be one or two glitches. The plus side is there's a full year warranty.
ok the two things you need for AT are good processor and lots of RAM. Look for anything that has an intel i5 cpu or AMD E3 (Quad core if you can). The intel imo is slightly better. Ram is expandable so you can cut costs a bit there and upgrade later, but all new laptops nowadays come with either 6gb or 8gb. Any less and it'd better be cheap or don't bother.
