Light acts like a wave and a particle Light "redshifts", or increases its wavelength, as it travels long distances The speed of light is the fastest possible speed in the universe The speed of light can only be achieved by massless objects Photons are without mass, therefore can go at the speed of light Where most waves carry energy in their amplitude, light carries it instead in its frequency Radio waves are the weakest type of light Microwaves are found everywhere as cosmic background radiation Infrared waves are felt as heat Visible waves are the only waves we can see Ultraviolet is harmful to the skin, and can cause skin cancers X-rays are so high energy that they pass through most objects without being absorbed Gamma rays are the highest energy type of light and can do a lot of damage Atoms that absorb photons are excited The spinning of electrons around atoms produces electromagnetic waves The electromagnetic waves produced by spinning electrons are basically light
