Almate

André Matějka

If you ever wondered who's behind that cat with the noble physiognomy, here you have it. Almate's roots are unmistakably to be found in Classic and Jazz, but these and other elements are skillfully mixed with contemporary sounds, mainly Drum and Bass. It's another of those cases where it is a real joy to watch a dedicated young artist grow.

Interview

André Matějka Place: Gig Harbor, Washington, United States Age: 18 Job/School: I am currently a senior in high school. I'm planning on going to a community college after I graduate this year. I hope to later become a music composer or a music teacher for a living, something to do with music in general.

Musical Style
I don't belong to a specific style. I really enjoy making genres of all kinds, although I am most known for Drum and Bass. I just like to go with the flow or how I feel. I am a jazz, classical, and contemporary musician when I'm not working on electronic music. I'm addicted to making music with harmonies and complex chord progressions.
Musical Background
It's hard to say when my musical background started because music has always been part of my life. When I was little, I used to play with my parent's keyboards for fun. I didn't really get too involved with music until I started teaching myself how to play piano at the age of 10 or 11. I took my recorder music from my 5th grade music class and used the screen from one of the keyboards at my house to help me learn what each note of the music was; I also learned music from The Legend of Zelda series as a way to help me learn more about music. Learning piano sparked curiosity in me so I decided to start playing trumpet at school in the beginning of middle school. This led up to my obsession with music, which caused me to develop perfect pitch and to learn a total of 10 instruments.
Started making music
I first started making music during my 8th grade year when I composed a piece for a band. It didn't go well.
On Audiotool
One August afternoon about 4 years ago, I was bored so I searched in the Google Chrome web store 'free music studio' and discovered Audiotool. I fell in love with Audiotool once I started to get the hang of how it worked.
Message to the community
You guys are a great community and have shown me so many things I could never even imagine. I am so thankful to have known everyone that I have met up to this point. I am also thankful to become a better musician because of you guys. Keep doing what you love whether it's making music or anything else you love doing, even if it's just a hobby. Your life will be so much better if you keep the things you love in life. One last thing to remember: Music is communication in its most pure form.
