Mikel Arrid-Thomas Boyles
Since the early Audiotool days Mikel Boyles aka Nowai has been a guarantor of a sound which - whatever style he is trying his hand at - shows his unfailing feeling for the origins of that musical culture. Whether Detroit -Techno, Chicago-House or Oldschool-Jungle: his tracks could without exception have had their place on the vinyls of that era. His portfolio is reminiscent of a visit in a records store in the 1990s.
Interview
Mikel Arrid-Thomas Boyles Place: Born in Pensacola, Florida, USA but spent most of my years in Fresno, California, USA. Age: 26 Profession: Professional Dad
- Musical Style
- Fluid. I constantly shift between different genres and styles of music. Repetitive Techno one day, grooving House the next, Ambient and D&B on another.
- Musical Background
- As far as playing actual instruments I didn't really start until I was a sophomore in University and that was guitar. Nowadays, aside from making tracks on Audiotool, I play guitar when the feeling strikes.
- Started making music
- I started making really bad mashup Hip Hop tracks back in 2007. I'd literally take an instrumental track, an acapella track, and smash them together using Fruity Loops (now called FL Studio).
- On Audiotool
- I discovered Hobnox Audiotool in the winter of 2009. I made a plethora of pretty basic Techno tracks and haven't looked back since. I watched it go from a pretty basic app to something that can be used to produce very impressive tracks if you have the vision and skill and a powerful enough computer!
- Message to the community
- To the community: Just have fun making music. Seriously. Don't get caught up in trying to make the next big club hit, trying to recruit everyone on the site to be your follower, or making tons of money off of your music. If you make good tracks people will find them. To the Audiotool Devs: Thank you so much for your hard work. Because of you lot I've been able to hear some incredible music, meet some awesome people, and find a way to make the music I always wished I could! Thanks for the spotlight!
