Apollo Does YouTube: Ideas and Suggestions

Hey,

Just curious if anyone would be interested in YouTube videos relating to Audiotool, music theory, music in general, even anything really. I'm planning on getting a bit more equipment to get something rolling, so please let me know what you'd like to see so I can get some content out for you guys. I'll probably use this topic to keep track of what would be simplest and most relevant to start with.

Cheers,

~Apollo

  • So, as it turns out, I'm terrible at speaking...

and I might not be able to afford internet.

So this mightn't work out after all, rip

    • Don't we all. I wish I was better at life.

    • I hear you man...

I just wish I was better at... a lot of things.

    • And dude, someone will always care. It's just that sometimes they have no power to do anything. I feel you, I really do. I have dreams to become a producer that makes music that people will love and appreciate but sometimes it just seems like that's too far away to achieve. I have to balance that with my studies, having to worry about the future, and learning how to produce. Add onto that the fact that my parents don't even support this makes it even more difficult. I can only imagine that it'll be even more difficult the older you get. But, we miss every shot we don't take. So you be you but do it safely.

  • You have a few options in terms of format for this:

    1. keep it short. People have a short attention span. This does increase massively if they are interested in the topic, so you don't have to keep it down to 2 minutes or anything. Sectioning can work well too; i.e. 5 minutes looking at a snare, then move onto the kick for 5 minutes, build the rest of the drums for 10 minutes, etc.

    basically, paragraphs/chapters like when writing.

    2. keep it varied. as mentioned with keeping it short, you could completely switch it up. Do a short segment on how to synthesise a snare, show how it can be done in AT too. Then throw in a track or two that has a snare you think kicks ass. Then come back to the snare. If people don't want to listen to the music in between, they can skip it, for others, it breaks up the video a little

as for content, I'd start it like most people start a track.

    Drums

    Bassline

    Bass synthesis

    Melody

    Synthesis

    Counter melody

    Arps

    Pads

    FX

    Arranging

    Mixing (mention throughout)

All of these can have ridiculous numbers of videos on smaller elements of each. Sounds vary for genre sometimes,as can techniques like compression or eqing.

    • Woah, so much feedback!

Thanks man, that's super appreciated, especially for organizing everything.

      I'll definitely take all of this into consideration for when I get everything going in regards to setup and recording c;

      Cheers

  • if you ever start the youtube channel, give me a link! :P

    • You mean WHEN, mind you, cx

Words are powerful enough to speak things into existence

But I'll be sure to let you know when the first video drops

  • HMU if you'd ever like to include me, I'd love to help out :)

    • Sure thing! I'll definitely give you a shout c;

  • I'm thinking you can do things such as tutorials, updates about the site, and (one of my favorite things) live performances i.e. launch pad, Anki, ect. I'd sub.

    • Awesomesauce, I was thinking the same thing, especially the live performances.

      I don't actually have that many performing devices yet, but perhaps I could do some piano compositions at the very least c;

  • Yeah man do it!!!

    • Thanks for the input, man, that'd be awesome!

Sound design would be awesome to learn, especially coming from your talent.

Btw, if you're at all interested, I could also use some help with editing if I want to do this regularly?

Maybe, if you mightn't, you might know someone who can. Cheers.

    • I wanna see you do music theory and other things of that sort. If you want, I might be able to help make videos about sound design and stuff of that sort.

If you've got a screen recorder (because I don't XD) You could get in a rabbit session with me and let me tabcast or something like that.

idk just some of my thoughts on it :D

  • yeah im liking the ideas of tutorials, maybe getting some other artists on voice chat or something, like "how to do this" or "how to get this effect" featuring [artist name] or smth. aswell as music i feel like alot of people can learn about your art, since all of my art and graphic design stuff after i was inspired by your work, so yeah maybe some stuff on graphic design would be really cool imo. but yeah all i can really think of is doing a video with another artist who uses a certain effect or has a certain workflow or does their setups in a certain way that you feel it would be good if the community saw and learned from what they did :) best of luck my dude

    • Thanks for the ideas guys, super appreciated.

I really like the interview idea, it'd be an awesome concept especially for beginners to encourage and educate.

      Good stuff

    • that'll really open up the community and build it to share ideas.

cause everyone here is running out.

    • omg yes, like interviews

  • we should do a re-do of the Audiotool tutorial.

  • You could also do something similar to what Chuck Sutton is starting on his channel where he gives feedback on tracks he is sent and demonstrates some of the suggestions he's talking about

    • I still feel like I have to be more knowledgeable than I currently am in order to give helpful advice.

But maybe I'd get better at it as I start and develop a critical ear... *shruggie*

  • Maybe a new tutorial series, infy's is nice but really outdated when it comes to techniques because the quality of songs has increased so much since then

    • I was thinking that, especially with Audiotool Next coming soon.

It's a good idea, but maybe for the future when Next is actually released (because it's evolving so much)

  • You could look at some Audiotool tracks inside the app and analyze them, talk about techniques which were used and what you like about them or maybe don`t like. Something like " How was it made" or Audiotool inside.

    • with regards to needing a good understanding to explain something..not necessarily. Yes, to explain it well you need to understand it and then be able to simplify it.

However, what can work, is someone going through and working out what does what, within a track and explaining their findings. We learn as you learn, kinda thing.

    • A How It's Made would actually be super cool. I'd be willing to help too, maybe we could get multiple people to help explain techniques. Would be amazingly useful for a new user.
