I like the synths but the chord progression sounds weird to me... [I maj7 ==> flat vi] is a cool progression but the second chord doesn't want to resolve back to the tonic. The second progression you have goes [flat vi ==> III (add #11)] which works well but that chord still doesn't resolve well. I think you should add more chords with similar slight atonlity/scifi feel to eventually circle back to tonic

Next chord in the progression could be ===> Cminor (w/ the C note on top) over Fminor
Bass rn goes Bb ===> F; for 3rd chord ===> C. And can substitute Db for Bb sometime b/c C leads to it. That'd sound nice I think

the polytonal approach 8^) very cool! don't really know if there's any wrong ways to approach harmony. im not sure if considering it stacked triads works for me personally because i dont think my ears can differentiate between the two triads and instead just lump everything together as one sound. though i think doing it that way does help explain that sci-fi sound!

I was thinking about the chords in the first progression wrong — they're actually stacked triads. First one is Bb minor over F minor (but the voicing puts Bb on top) and 2nd chord is E minor over F major
So it's like two chord progressions in one — Bb minor ===> E minor is on top; F minor ===> F major is on the bottom. So the reason that it sounds so 'sci-fi' is the motion from Bb ==> E b/c that's a tritone.

When it comes to music theory, I'm a smooth brain lol my original thinking was that if the first chord moves into the second one nicely in both sections, and the second chord stays the same, then why not use it to move from section to section. I agree that there's no really satisfying resolution, but changes I've tried to add more movement and reach some kind of conclusion haven't sounded right so far, but that's probably because I go by ear and also trial and error which can be a slow process

eek addendum i just opened this up and tried what i recommended in the second comment and it sounded really terrible especially the Db -> D natural. don't listen to me i dont know shit ante knows what they're talking about haha

also a lot of the sci-fi feel is from mediant relations, and having the bass motion in thirds is a huge part of that effect. if you're not happy with this as it is you could consider keeping the harmony and moving the bass around. like replacing the F in the first progression with a D natural is a really cool sound. also like goes without saying this track is dope afff and the sound design is soooo perfect. love the drum chops too!
