I'd recommend learning to develop your own melodies/arps/basslines/chord progressions/pads to go with the drumline in future.

You don't need any keyboard. You can simply write the notes in with your mouse.

I agree, learning how to sound design and compose songs w/out ll samples will increase your skill and flexibility by a ton
