I completely agree. But he’s specifically talking about music that’s supposedly pushing agendas and trying to sound “deep”, yet somehow sounds bland and soulless. Think of a triple a game with beautiful graphics but no story or gameplay. It’s pretty on the outside, but beyond surface level it’s shallow and comes across as ingenuine and outright lazy at times.
Also saying that it was a joke is a complete blatant lie

i mean music doesn't have ot have meaning or substance to be good. i unironically like my teenage dream ended, and that doesn't really have any substance but i do not care its a great album
