I met a racist at a show I was working tickets at. After it started I noticed somebody upset, stomping around the lobby. I asked what was wrong and proceeded to get an ear-full of hatred. Scary stuff, I thought they might be there to act out a hate crime. So I kept them talking, tried to reason, stayed polite, but didn't back down on my beliefs.
They calmed down after about an hour of talking... I later got a call from this crazy women who had been harassing my job for years. That was her daughter, struggling with the same mental issues. The nastiness turned to tragedy. She thanked me for being a friend to them.
Peace is a responsibility and I'm glad I was kind to that racist. I hope I made a small dent in what was holding their heart hostage. I hope I was nicer to them than the people who corrupted them are. I pray my words held weight.
Lyrics: the onus is on me. it's a fading light, it's a losing fight. a responsibility (I hope you know) I won't leave you for the shame. it's a burdened fall, it's a labored call & it hurts me all the same.
crying out, but you're still the same. the walls grow taller but the distance stays. hear my words through a vague malaise, but the crowd is louder than my voice conveys.
we feel like enemies; what we have made. I hold it in between; call it a spade. we slowly turn to dust, we fade away. you hold it in between; assumptions stay.
don't hold back; reset. cure this honest treason. don't medicate with parting hands. don't reciprocate with made up men. the hardest reasons lead to bloodshed; legion. holding back my limbs, we'll dance again. heart-ache. massive hands and colored bands.
I choose my mistakes cause I need a memory; a time or a space where I'm not up on the big screen. I'm covered up, it's smothering. I cannot say, I cannot think. it's threatening and I am weak. don't hesitate your reasoning. I'm burning up and paralyzed. is this beloved antichrist the remedy for all of me, or constant clouded misery?
hurt in your honesty. hate doesn't meet your needs.
