One of the most exciting quests in astronomy is the search for signs of life outside Earth. Exoplanets similar to Earth are essential objects to study to move forward on this question. An international research team including scientists from CNRS Terre & Univers, has confirmed the discovery of HD 20794 d, an Earth-type exoplanet whose eccentric orbit partly crosses the habitable zone of its star, i.e. sufficiently temperate for liquid water to exist there. Its host star is located just 19.7 light years from Earth, making it one of the 150 closest stars to us.
