a serious question

i cant help but feel like audiotool is starting to lose its touch. everyone is bored and demotivated and the amount of drama being rampant in the outer less traveled and mentioned parts of the community doesnt seem to be helping with much of that. with client leaving, and nobody having figured out the whole blank project yet (with me being the closest but ultimately giving up due to lack of time to work on it and lack of patience for something so trivial and simple, yet not). i dont know whats going on with the bigger name producers like vulkron or whatnot, but i do know that things have seemed off for a little while now. has anyone else noticed anything or is it just me?

  • What people fail to realize is that Audiotool at its core is just a site on the internet. And, socially, the whole internet is like this. Everyone expresses their thoughts regardless of how it makes others feel or what drama it causes because everyone has a little shred of anonymity. So we're really just at the mercy of however much of that we want to focus on. I think it's far more beneficial to think of what we have in our little circles than what's out there on the rest of the site beyond our control

I think the reason people feel so defeated is because they've become possessive of the site for the sentimental value it's brought all of us. But none of us own this site; it's just a chunk of the internet we frequent. And in the grand scheme of things we can't really do anything to dictate where this site goes. BUT, we do own our music and our connections made with people through that music. I think the friendships and inspiration found through here should be fulfilling enough, no?

And on one last note, about artists leaving. I feel like the more we respect artists here the higher of a pedestal we put them on to the point of celebrity status--as if they belong here on this site and in this hobby forever. But for many of us that's exactly what this is: a hobby. Or if people decide to make this a profession, leaving here for other DAWs is looked down upon. The immense pressure to stay I think is one of the things that leaves so many artists demotivated--I even feel it on myself. I love this site and the people in it so much, but sometimes the DAW can't do everything I want it to do, or sometimes I need a change of scenery, or whatever it may be. As disappointing as it is for artists to leave I don't think we should let it demoralize us, because they're just doing what's best for themselves. Again, none of us are celebrities, so we shouldn't subject ourselves or others to celebrity pressure, you know?

    Just my three cents lol

  • I was demotivated for about four months from january to april, i left at for hiatus, idk if I will come back tho, me leaving has given alot of clarity to alot of the community I just can't stand idk, there are probably a variety of reasons, ive narrowed down to 4 main ones

    1. Covid Cringe Moment

    2. Lack of updates (I am not blaming anyone here, pandemic is hitting everyone lol)

    3. Community is kind of annoying sometimes

    4. I enjoy my paid daws more ngl + discord combo, more than the AT by itself

    • 1 month update, I still enjoy fl and ableton more, and it comes with the plus of not having to interact with annoying 13 year olds, simps, and/or pretentious people. Ik no one wants to accept this but AT's community has gotten worse, I do not know when it started, and I cannot pinpoint what exactly makes modern audiotool so much less fun than older audiotool, I just remember I actually used to like this site more back in 2014. And of the ppl I know, apparently I'm not alone.

  • I've mostly disconnected myself from the audiotool community for the reasons you've pointed out (mostly the drama). I sadly wouldn't know a lot about it, and I prefer being out of the loop at this point, honestly.

  • It's not just you either.

  • I mean... I've definitely noticed people are bored, including myself... Even though I have lots of ideas... I still somehow end up bored.

  • idk i am doing fine and in my little circle

  • even ive been feeling demotivated as far as music is concerned.
