Well, when you have a sample in the machiniste there is a output and the I use a splitter to make two signals, the eq I use to boost wanted frequenties that make the sound better (like for example a kick sample that needs more punch), if I do it for the higher and lower I get two signals in my mixer and there I adjust the volumes/panning for a good endresult..
They are to colour the sounds of the drumsamles, I split them and use one to accentuate the high end and the other for the low end, later I make a mix or add efects like panning delay or reverb, this is something for the mix fase when most of the music is done because it can cause lagging:~)
