I think it's fair to say that this track in particular was a major milestone in what kind of soundscape was to come out of the more "expressionist" side of audiotool. I'd have to do some digging to actually find another track with the same anxious, doomed and raw feeling that this song brings across the table. Of course dissonance and noise have been around for a long time (young me mostly ignored that side of AT tho), but the inclusion of vocals made this very personal (in a readable way).
Long story short, I think this is one of the most stylistically impactful and important tracks in the history of audiotool, even if there's plenty that came from Carrie's kitchen before, that has that same purpose, this one truly brought it home.
The works of WhiteGrizzly (RIP) for example, were more elegantly dark, had a kind of grace and fascination to them. Stood more on the end of sonic exploration. Then there are a few artists that explored more of an edgy, ironic unhingedness. To me most of these works fall more in the category of sonic or thematic exploration rather than visibly processing heavy themes. It's this openness that embeds itself in my memory. Now there are several artists that evolved alongside this rawness.
I haven't interacted much with this track, but I really don't want this to die down so fast. This song deserves more recognition, it's really top-tier production man. I could hear this in a movie theater for a soundtrack for a John Wick chase scene and fucking bop to it. Just comes to show how Audiotool can be as good as mainstream DAWs when pushed to the limits and used right by talented producers.
